AdU Soaring Falcons over the UST Growling Tigers, 81-71
Can you give me what Adamson drank right before the game?
Extra Joss?
Red Bull?
Ovaltine?
What the hell were the Falcons on? Because, man, they were on.
Wingman Janus Lozada scored 21 points on 7-9 FG shooting, 6-8 FT shooting, grabbed 4 rebounds and had 2 assists. Alex Nuyles, who’s known for his daredevil drives and insane springs, hit 4 triples, took down 6 boards and dished out 3 dimes. Eric Camson was solid with 19 markers and 7 caroms. Adamson just displayed an all-around performance that proved to be too much for UST.

The game-breaker? A crippling 16-0 run, which came after UST’s Chris Camus’s breakaway lay-up to open the scoring, that provided a deficit the Tigers just couldn’t overhaul. The Falcons showcased a plethora of moves – from drives, turnaround Js and catch-and-shoot 3s – that just baffled coach Pido Jarencio’s wards and left the Black & Gold fans scratching their heads.
The question running in their minds: where was the UST five that upset NU and victimized UE?
Here’s the thing: UST didn’t really play awful basketball. In fact, shooting 38% from the field, 81% from the line and turning the ball over just 12 times is a little above par in the UAAP. They just ran smack into an Adamson team that still carried the momentum of their resounding defeat of the mighty FEU Tamaraws from last weekend.

Suffice to say that coach Leo Austria’s boys were just too hot to handle for the España felines.
And this is perhaps something UST’s fans should learn to get used to. Of all the teams they’ve yet to face, UP is probably the only team they can beat better than 5 times out of 10. Against Ateneo, FEU and then La Salle? Oh man, let’s just say more head-scratching is to follow.
More tough times lie ahead for Jeric Teng, Karim Abdul, and the rest of the Tigers. (image from UAAPSports.tv) |
On the other side of things, the Falcons are living up to their moniker. The team is soaring, and is probably the hottest team right now, given Ateneo’s cold shooting performance against UE. Things could potentially get better, too, since the hapless Warriors are up next, and the hard-luck Bulldogs come after.
So, what was it anyway? Extra Joss? Red Bull? Or Ovaltine?
