PETRON BLAZE BOOSTERS over BARAKO BULL ENERGY, 95-83
Alex Cabagnot stepped in and bailed Petron out of imminent danger. The Boosters’ ace playmaker sparked a decisive run in the fourth quarter by knocking down three
consecutive three-point shots, and Petron broke away for good in beating Barako Bull, clinching the early solo lead in the PBA Philippine Cup.
Cabagnot eventually wound up with a career-high-tying 22 points and 4 assists. Arwind Santos scored 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field and grabbed 14 rebounds, rookie Chris Lutz contributed 17 points, Carlo Sharma poured in 15 markers and Danny Ildefonso continued to fool Father Time with 11 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists as Petron booked a second win in a row its coach never really expected.
Barako Bull, the former Air21 franchise and a team loaded with veteran players, was led by Mick Pennisi’s 16 points while Allein Maliksi had 15 points and 7 rebounds as the team lost its 12th in a row dating back to the Commissioner's Cup. The Energy failed to draw the numbers expected from two-time MVP Willie Miller, who was held by Lutz’ defense to eight points. Miller only shot 2-of-8 from the field and had three turnovers in 30 minutes of play. Danny Seigle likewise was limited to only five points.

TALK N TEXT TROPANG TEXTERS over MERALCO BOLTS, 98-80
Former top draft pick, Japeth Aguilar returned to the pro league with aplomb, making a huge impact in Talk n Text’s rousing debut. Aguilar literally and figuratively towered above anybody else in his PBA comeback, pouring in 27
points to lead the Tropang Texters to a rout of the Meralco Bolts.
The Texters put the game away from the Bolts early with Aguilar outscoring the entire Meralco team, 14-6, in the second quarter. The former Western Kentucky U player piled up 19 points in the first half and added 8 more in the second half for the biggest output by anybody in the season thus far. Jayson Castro, Jared Dillinger and Harvey Carey added at least 11 each as the Texters covered well the absence of top stalwarts Kelly Williams, Jimmy Alapag and Ranidel de Ocampo.
The Bolts got off-balanced on the early ouster of Macmac Cardona on a sprained ankle, and the team failed to recover. Hard-nosed guard Sol Mercado was in civvies, still recuperating from his injury.

RAIN OR SHINE ELAST PAINTERS over POWERADE TIGERS, 96-93
Rain or Shine put together a pair of critical stops late in the game Sunday night, surviving another tense outing in a victory over Powerade and joining Petron Blaze at the top of the standings with its second straight win. A ballclub not necessarily noted for its defense, the Elasto Painters forced the Tigers to commit a 24-second shot-clock violation with 33 ticks left to play, and Jeff Chan came through with a
perfectly-timed rejection off a potential overtime-sending three-point shot by Gary David at the deep right corner, securing their second straight win.
Rookie Paul Lee, who debuted in sensational manner with 21 points and 8 assists, wasn’t at his finest decision-making form. He took an ill-advised three-point shot late in the game when Powerade was already at penalty, and failed to get into a rhythm early because of foul trouble. But the former University of the East standout who was picked No. 2 in the August Draft still came away with a game-high 19 points marked by his first connection from the three-point area, an output
he shared with Chan. Gabe Norwood added 11 points, which came with 10 rebounds and 6 assists, and Ryan Arana had 10.
Doug Kramer scored 16 points and grabbed 14 boards to lead Powerade while David was held to only 14 points after scoring 31 in a 98-87 win over Shopinas last Wednesday.

BGY. GINEBRA KINGS over ALASKA ACES, 83-72
Barangay Ginebra established control towards the end of the third quarter and roared on to pull off a win over the Alaska Aces. Nino Canaleta, Mark Caguioa and Jayjay Helterbrand stood at the forefront of Ginebra’s attack as the Kings cut loose from a tight game in the third period and never let up to score the rousing victory witnessed by a crowd of over 10,000.
Canaleta and Caguioa presided over Ginebra’s romp in the third quarter then Helterbrand had a crucial seven-point explosion to step up the Kings’ breakaway in the fourth. The Aces tried to mount a rally but the Kings were undaunted, unleashing a 9-3 run to all but settle the outcome of the game at 81-66 with a little over a minute left to play.
Canaleta scored 17 points and pulled down 7 rebounds while Caguioa tossed in 16 markers and grabbed 6 boards for the Kings.
Rookie Mac Baracael made 17 points while Sonny Thoss had 16 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Aces.
