POWERADE TIGERS over RAIN OR SHINE ELASTO-PAINTERS, 104-99 (OT)
Gary David carried Powerade to a second straight win over Rain or Shine, churning out another big game that keyed the Tigers’ win in overtime. The Powerade scoring machine delivered a fifth consecutive 30-point performance as the Tigers surged ahead, 2-1, in the best-of-seven semifinals.
A good weekend crowd at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum stood witness as David torched the Elasto-Painters with 31 points, including 20 in the fourth quarter and in the extension play. David and company go for the pivotal 3-1 series lead in Game Four, also at the Big Dome, Tuesday.
Sean Anthony and the rest of Powerade can go for a commanding 3-1 lead in Game 4 on Tuesday. |
The Tigers faced a precarious situation, 89-95, entering the homestretch but David himself brought the team back in the fight, forcing overtime at 97-all with three charities in the last 10 seconds of play.
Both teams had a chance to win the game in the closing seconds of regulation, but blew it. Beau Belga misfired an attempt from atop the key while Doug Kramer missed a shot from underneath.
Gabe Norwood made the first basket in overtime, but the Elasto Painters failed to buy a single basket afterwards. David, on the other hand, sustained his firepower in OT, capping his giant effort with a brilliant basket off Norwood that gave Powerade a 103-99 cushion with time down to 31.4 seconds.
Gabe Norwood made ROS's only 2 points in the extra session as the Painters' shooting went ice cold. |
The former Lyceum standout knocked in five triples, six twinners and four charities as he cashed in on another scintillating offensive display.
Paul Lee paced Rain or Shine with 19 points while Jervy Cruz had his huge share with a career-best 17 points and 13 rebounds.
