Karim Abdul and the Tigers ran roughshod over the Mapua Cardinals. |
Notes:
- Renzo Subido suited for the Zobel Junior Archers wearing a protective face mask. Despite this, he still posted solid numbers in a losing effort to a superior San Sebastian side. The Staglets, however, didn’t exactly have an easy time against Zobel. Baste ran out to a big lead in the first frame before the Junior Archers made a game of it. Rhanzel Yong was solid once again, netting a nice doulble-double. John Macasaet and Michael Calisaan both also did pretty well for Baste, combining for 26 points and 17 rebounds.
- Noube Happi continued to be the most dominant General for EAC. His double-double all but pulverized the challenge from the AU Chiefs. Arellano coach Koy Banal clearly still needs to do a lot of tweaking before he can steer the Chiefs to the upper echelon of the NCAA. Franz Chiong and Remy Morada also did well, combining for 5 triples.
- Even without Kevin Alas, the Knights proved to be just a little too much to handle for the Altas. Despite Jett Vidal’s 25-point explosion bannered by 6 treys, the Knights were still able to pull out their 2nd win in 4 games. Diminutive guard Mark Cruz was the spitfire here, scoring 16 points and dishing out 4 dimes, while Jam Cortes was rock solid down low. Beanpole
Raymond Almazan showed up for this one, and he accounted well for himself with 6 markers and 15 boards.- The Stags ran into a very game CSB five that almost gave them their 3rd loss of the tourney. Instead, the dynamic duo of Calvin Abueva and Ian Sangalang once again led Baste to the win. Abueva and Sangalang paired up for 38 points, 18 rebounds, and 5 assists as the Stags weathered a strong fourth quarter by the Blazers. Benilde wasted the hot-shooting of former Green Archer Joel Tolentino, who made 5 triples en route to 15 points. CSB fell to 1-4 in their group.
- UST built on a strong first quarter and never really let up in their demolition of the Mapua Cardinals. Karim Abdul and Aljohn Mariano led the way with 15 points each, with Abdul adding 15 rebounds to his name. Kevin Ferrer was also good, netting 13 markers and grabbing 8 boards, while the returning Tata Bautista nailed 3 threes to finish with 11 points. Mapua’s erstwhile leading scorer Gab Banal was limited to just 6 points on 1-of-6 shooting. His cousin, Jonathan Banal, led the way for the Cards with 13 markers. This is the Tigers’ 2nd win in 5 matches, while Mapua goes down to 1-4.
