RR GArcia hit 25 points as the Tamaraws cruised to their fifth win in the 2012 Filoil Preseason Hanes Cup. |
Notes:
- Mario Bonleon continues to be the most prolific scorer for the Greenies, who now tote a 3-1 slate. The brothers Paras also did well here, combining for 16 points and 5 rebounds. On the other end of the floor, Arwin Margallo, Reiner Quinga, and Kharl Pangaibat tried their best to rally the Baby Falcons, who were in striking distance till the fourth and final frame, where the LSGH unloaded a 26-15 bomb that left the outcome beyond doubt.
- Carlo Lastimosa played an all-around game to tow his Blazers to just their second win in the Filoil tourney. CSB rallied from a 7-point deficit at the start of the final quarter to prevail over a reeling Adamson squad. Lastimosa punctured the net for 16 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists to display a well-rounded effort rarely seen from the one-time Blue Eagle. Robert Bartolo had what was easily his best game of the summer so far, narrowly missing a double-double with 17 markers and 9 boards to aid Lastimosa. The strong interior presence of both Eric Camson and Rodney Brondial, both of whom combined for 38 points and 18 rebounds, failed to sustain the momentum for the Falcons, who have now dropped 4 of their 6 games.
- In a contest that saw the ejection of a handful of players, the San Sebastian Stags took advantage of a depleted EAC quintet and prevailed for the fourth time in six games. Calvin Abueva was his beastly self again, collecting 19 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 assists for Baste. He was ably supported by Ian Sangalang, Jovit Dela Cruz, and Dexter Maiquez, who scored 17, 13, and 10 points respectively. Only 6 players finished the game for the Generals, who were suffering from injuries to four players. Together with SSC’s Michael Miranda, EAC’s Igee King and Jan Acebron were thrown out of the playing court after getting slapped with disqualifying fouls. EAC wasted the strong efforts of Remy Morada and Noube Happi, both of whom scored 18 markers. Happi added another double-double to his total this summer by also grabbing 13 boards.
- In the final game of the day, the FEU Tamaraws successfully remained in solo second in their group after defeating the Arellano Chiefs. With this win, FEU is at 5-1, just behind the idle NU Bulldogs. The Tams were led by the combined might of RR Garcia and Terrence Romeo, who scored 25 and 23 points respectively. The dynamic backcourt duo also paired up for 7 treys, 6 assists, and 3 steals. The Chiefs, who fell to 2-4, were led by Ike Ciriacruz’s 18 points and 3 triples. Curiously enough, Arellano was without one of its banner newcomers this season – James Forrester.
