Two of the top point guards in the
Association came up big yesterday as Derrick Rose’s late floater lifted Chicago
over New York, while CP3’s sensational performance propelled the Clippers past
the Warriors.

Best:
- D-Rose is off to a slow start in his return to regular season play, and this night was no exception. Rose hit just 7/23 FGs to finish with 18 points, but he was able to hit the one that mattered the most. Rose hit a high-arcing floater from the right baseline over both Raymond Felton and Tyson Chandler for the huge 82-81 win. Now that’s what you call #WhenItCounts.
- Chris Paul’s line when the dust settled – 42 points, 15 assists, 6 steals, 12/120 FGs, and 16/17 FTs. His ESPN efficiency rating? 76.6 EFF. That’s the highest so far this season. Oh, and did you see those THRE STRAIGHT lob city jams between CP3 and Blake Griff? WHUUUT.

The
Worst:
- Maybe someday Tim Hardaway, Jr. will approximate the level of awesomeness his father reached, but that day might not come anytime soon. In this game, Hardaway hit just 4/13 field goals and had 0 assists in 27 minutes. Yikes.
- I loved Steph Curry’s shootout with CP3. Curry held his own by scoring 38 points and hitting 9 triples. That’s good and all, but I HATE seeing him turn the ball over ELEVEN times. ELEVEN.

Derrick Rose struggled for most of the contest but stepped up when it mattered
most, sinking a difficult floater with 5.7 seconds left in the game to lead the
Chicago Bulls to an 82-81 win over the New York Knicks from the United Center.
After Tyson Chandler sank 1-of-2 at the foul line to spot New York a one-point
advantage, Chicago called timeout to draw up a play for its superstar point
guard. Rose, who had shot 6-of-22 from the field to that point, drove baseline
and lofted a runner over Chandler's outstretched arms to the delight of his
home crowd. Carmelo Anthony missed a contested triple at the other end as time ran
out on the Knicks, who fell to 3-21 in their last 24 trips to the United
Center. The win marked Rose's first in the regular season since Apr. 25, 2011.
Rose netted 18 points for the Bulls and Joakim Noah added 15 rebounds and five
assists. Luol Deng also had 17 points in the victory. Anthony filled the stat
sheet with 22 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals for New York,
while Chandler corralled a game-high 19 rebounds. Raymond Felton netted 13
points and handed out six assists.

Behind a sensational 42-point, 15-assist effort from Chris Paul, the Los
Angeles Clippers notched their first win of the Doc Rivers era with a 126-115
decision over the Golden State Warriors at Staples Center. Paul added six
steals while making good on 12-of-20 field goal attempts in the Clippers'
official home opener -- they dropped a 116-103 verdict to the crosstown Lakers
as the visiting team on Tuesday -- with Blake Griffin contributing 23 points on
9-of-12 shooting in addition to grabbing 10 rebounds. DeAndre Jordan pulled
down 17 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive end, and J.J. Redick and Jamal
Crawford tallied 17 points each as the Clippers overcame a 38-point barrage
from Stephen Curry in Rivers' second game behind the bench. Curry drained a
lethal 9-of-14 tries from 3-point range, but was charged with 11 of Golden
State's 25 turnovers. Backcourt mate Klay Thompson managed just 10 points, one
night after hitting 5-of-7 treys in a career-high 38-point performance in the
Warriors' 125-94 rout of the Lakers on Wednesday. David Lee scored 22 points
for Golden State before fouling out late, with Andre Iguodala recording 14
points and 11 assists in the loss.
