The 2014 PBA Philippine
Cup semifinals series between Alaska and Rain or Shine was leveled earlier
tonight after the Elasto-Painters turned back the Aces in Game 2. Undersized
big man Jervy Cruz and unheralded guard Jonathan Uyloan were huge, leading ROS in
the critical victory.

RAIN OR SHINE ELASTO-PAINTERS over ALASKA
ACES, 102-95
The Rain or Shine Elasto
Painters once again saw a large margin slip away against Alaska but did enough
this time to preserve the victory, 102-95, and level their PBA Philippine Cup
semifinal series at 1-all.
Jervy Cruz notched
game-highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds and Jonathan Uyloan added 18 as Rain or
Shine bounced back from a Game One loss last Thursday. Gabe Norwood also had a
strong game with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals in a well-rounded
effort for Rain or Shine. Paul Lee added 13 points, including two
three-pointers in the fourth quarter, in the win.
Rain or Shine led by 19
points at the halftime break but allowed Alaska to come back to within five
points in the fourth quarter, but Norwood and Lee hit some key free throws in
the dying minutes to hold off the Aces’ charge.
Alaska won the battle of
the boards, 53-45, but this was offset by the Aces’ 25 turnovers. The Painters
pounced on Alaska’s mistakes, scoring 17 points off turnovers. ROS also hit 9
triples compared to just 6 for the Aces.
Vic Manuel did well for
coach Alex Compton’s crew here, dropping 17 points and 9 rebounds, while Eric
Menk added 18 markers and 9 boards. Major Pain, however, turned the ball over 7
times.
Line of the Game: Jervy Cruz - 19pts, 12rebs, 1ast, 9/13 FGs.
