- Perhaps the Baby Tamaraws could have actuall walked away winning this one had Marvin Lee made just one more three. Lee attempted SIXTEEN threes in this game, but the trigger-happy guard connected just once from rainbow country, bringing his team’s shooting percentage down and stifling their chance at getting win #2 for the season. Instead, the Eaglets led most of the way and came up with the clutch baskets in overtime to stay unbeaten and atop the standings with a 3-0 slate. Matt Nieto was the hero of the day for Ateneo here, scoring 22 points, grabbing 9 rebounds, handing out 4 assists, and getting 1 steal, while twin brother Mike added a dozen markers, 7 boards, 4 dimes, and 3 rejections. Fellow Batang Gilas stalwart Jolo Mendoza also did well, dropping 16 points, while “Lakay Jr.” Shaun Ildefonso announced his presence in the UAAP with 11 point of his own. - Coach Jeff Napa’s wards barely avoided the upset axe in this one, surviving against the energetic Junior Archers to stay undefeated. NU waxed cold from long range, making just 1 of 14 trey attempts, but they compensated with their aggressiveness as they were awarded 30 free throw attempts. The Bullpups made good on just 14 charities, but it was enough make the difference as Zobel shot just one freebie all game long. Mark Dyke came away with the line of the night, registering 11 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks, while wingman Jordan Sta. Ana and John Clemente added 12 and 11 markers respectively. - UPIS flirted ever so briefly with the lead, but they soon yielded to a superior UST side and lost their third straight game of the season. UST, meanwhile, bounced back from their loss to Ateneo this past Wednesday, leaning on the exploits of Miguel Jison, who scored 15 points and hauled down 11 rebounds off the bench. He was the only Tiger Cub in double-digits, with Adolph Salinas and Roald Mayor each dropping only 8 markers in support. Julius Barraquias and Juan Gomez de Liano led UPIS’s losing cause with 11 and 10 points respectively.
