#SEABA2015 Championship Day 4 Roundup

A big upset rocked Day 4 of the 2015 SEABA Championship as hosts Singapore, which was hoping to challenge the Filipinos’ regional supremacy, fell to the Malaysians in a result that many didn’t expect. The Filipinos and Indons, meanwhile, earned victories against separate foes.

- Indonesia started strong and never looked back in this one. The Indons dominated Laos in practically every way en route to their first win of the tourney. Star scorer Respati Pamungkas played facilitator in this one, handing out 3 assists while playing just over 10 minutes. Yanuar Priasmoro and Juan Kokodiputra paced the Indons with 19 points apiece, while Muhamad Wardana added 9 markers and 14 boards. On the other end, Siphandone Lothalath led Laos with 14 points.

- It was over before it even began, as the Filipinos just bullied their way to the 111-point win. Sinag Pilipinas ws relentless here, forcing 32 turnovers and scoring at least 32 points in every quarter. Ray Parks led seven Pinoys in double-figures by netting 19 points on 9/10 FG shooting. Every Filipino fielded in scored at least 6 markers. Coach Tab Baldwin, fresh from helping Talk N Text win a title in the PBA, chose to rest Marcus Douthit in preparation for the final match against Singapore. Nobody scored in double-digits for the losing side, with Wei Ming Ching’s 9-point total the highest.

MALAYSIA over SINGAPORE, 58-49

- Hosts Singapore absorbed a major setback after losing to neighboring Malaysia in the penultimate day of hostilities. Singapore just went cold from the field in this one, connecting on only 16 of their 68 field goal attempts. Usual reliables like Wei Long Wong and Hanbin Ng struggled big time, making just a combined 2 of 14 shots. Russel Low led the home side with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Malaysia, meanwhile, utilized its big frontline to outrebound and outmuscle Singapore. The victors were +5 in rebounding and +8 in inside scoring, no doubt owing much to the duo of Ivan Yeo and Tian Yuan Kuek. Yeo, who didn’t play against the Philippines the previous night, dropped 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Kuek tallied 11 markers and 13 boards. This win assured the Malaysians that they will join Singapore and the Philippines in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship. Singapore must beat the Philippines by 35 points or more if they want to steal the championship.
