BARAKO BULL ENERGY over BLACKWATER ELITE, 105-90

The Barako Bull Energy are off to a strong start in the PBA Governors’ Cup after cruising past Blackwater, 105-90, to make it back-to-back wins to open the conference on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Barako Bull blew the game wide open as early as the first period, which they won, 32-11. JC Intal started off hot, scoring nine of the team’s first 16 points while import Liam McMorrow also finished the quarter with nine in another strong showing for the Energy.
But while Blackwater did its best to battle back, Barako Bull all but put it away with a decisive 20-6 run bridging the third and fourth quarters. Carlo Lastimosa and McMorrow led the breakaway, which gave the team a lead of as high as 26 points, 91-65, with under 10 minutes left in the game.
McMorrow impressed again with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Lastimosa finished with 18 points on an efficient 7-for-11 (63%) shooting clip.
Intal scored 17, shooting 7-for-10 from the field and 3-for-4 from three-point range, alongside 7 rebounds and 2 assists.
Douthit led the Elite with 21 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks. Brian Heruela, JP Erram, and Bam Gamalinda all scored 12 apiece.

TALK N TEXT TROPANG TEXTERS over BGY. GINEBRA GIN KINGS, 95-91

The Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters made a tough defensive stand and some crucial shots in the fourth as the Commissioner’s Cup champions survived a 46-point encore from Barangay Ginebra import Orlando Johnson to open their quest for another title with a victory over the Kings, 95-91, on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Setffphon Pettigrew had 33 points – including five points in Talk ‘N Text’s 11-0 fourth quarter run – alongside 12 rebounds to lead the way for the Tropang Texters. Veteran Danny Seigle found his vintage form to score 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting, while rookie Matt Ganuelas-Rosser added 13 points.
Talk ‘N Text’s Asian import, Sam Daghlas, struggled for just 12 points, but he finished with a team-high five assists and made some big shots in the endgame.
The Kings pulled ahead, 84-83, with 7:01 remaining after Ginebra’s Johnson, who had an impressive follow-up to his 50-point debut last Friday, scored 46th point of the game. But the Tropang Texters buckled down on defense, holding Ginebra without a point for a five-minute, 46-second stretch, outscoring the Kings 11-0 run in that span to take a 94-84 lead.
Ginebra went into never-say-die mode, though, scoring seven unanswered points, including a big trey from Josh Urbiztondo.
But Larry Fonacier went one-for-two from the line to make it a two-possession game, 95-91, with 11 seconds remaining and the Talk ‘N Text defense would not allow a score on Ginebra’s final offensive.
Johnson added 10 of Ginebra’s first 13 points in the final period, including five straight that finally put the Kings on top, 84-83.
Ginebra’s new acquisition Sol Mercado scored 13 points while Tenorio added 10, although he was scoreless in the second half.
The Kings’ Asian reinforcement, Mongolian Sanchir Tungalag, was not fielded in by coach Frankie Lim.
