ALASKA ACES over BLACKWATER ELITE, 106-80

The Alaska Aces thumped the Blackwater Elite, 106-80, to get off to a winning start in the opening day of the PBA Governors’ Cup Tuesday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Import Romeo Travis led the Aces with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while guards JVee Casio and his backup Chris Banchero chipped in 13 markers apiece to pace Alaska, which dominated from start to finish.
Alaska launched a 13-2 run late in the first period to grab a 26-17 lead.
After maintaining a double-digit lead in the second period, the Aces eventually pulled away in the third period after opening it with a 13-0 run that gave them a 24-point lead.
The Aces went on to lead by as many as 35 points, 81-46, and never looked back.
Marcus Douthit led the way for Blacwater with 28 points and 16 rebounds.

MERALCO BOLTS over GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER, 92-73

GlobalPort gave coach Pido Jarencio a warm welcome by coming away with a convincing 92-73 over Meralco Bolts Tuesday for a rousing start in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Behind the solid offensive games from Terrence Romeo and imports Omar Krayem and Patrick O’Bryant, the Batang Pier were able to cover up the absence of key players Stanley Pringle and Anthony Semerad.
Romeo led the way with 27 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists to give Jarencio his first victory in his return as the squad’s coach.
Krayem, the Batang Pier’s Asian import, contributed 18 markers and 8 rebounds, while O’Bryant, the team’s seven-foot reinforcement, came away with 15 points and 23 boards.
With O’Bryant controlling the boards, the Batang Pier were able to execute their running game. They had 21 points off transition, 14 more than their rivals.
The Batang Pier, who came up with a good defensive gameplan by shackling down Meralco star Gary David, held their rivals to a paltry 28-percent shooting from the field.
David was held to just five points and was not able to complement the good offensive game of import Andre Emmett, who came away with 41 points and 13 rebounds.
