GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER over BLACKWATER ELITE, 100-76

Stanley Pringle made a triumphant return from injury as he helped his GlobalPort Batang Pier make it two wins in a row to start the PBA Governors’ Cup, dealing expansion team Blackwater a second straight defeat, 100-76, on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Terrence Romeo topscored with 20 points, while Pringle, who missed the last three games for GlobalPort, including their conference opener earlier this week, posted 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists in just 14 and a half minutes to lead the way for the Batang Pier.
Ronjay Buenafe finished with 16 points, with 11 coming in a fourth quarter where GlobalPort had the game well in hand. 7-foot-tall import Patrick O’Bryant had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds alongside four steals and two blocks.
Their Asian import, Omar Krayem, struggled for just two points, though, after debuting with 18 in their conference opener.
Blackwater’s Marcus Douthit had a terrific performance with 24 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, and 7 blocks, but he could not get much from his teammates in this one.

ALASKA ACES over BGY. GINEBRA GIN KINGS, 108-99

The Alaska Aces needed to weather a terrific debut from Ginebra import Orlando Johnson and survive the Kings’ gutsy comeback from 22 down, but they found a way to pick up the victory, 108-99, to open the PBA Governors’ Cup with back-to-back wins on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Johnson scored 50 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in his Barangay Ginebra debut, but it wasn’t enough against a cohesive Alaska unit that led the whole way through.
Alaska import Romeo Travis had 34 points and 16 rebounds, while Dondon Hontiveros and RJ Jazul both finished in double-figures to back him up.
Alaska enjoyed a hot start, scoring the first 14 points of the ballgame. Nine of those came from Travis, including the first seven, while JVee Casio added a three-pointer and Sonny Thoss chipped in with two free throws. They rode that momentum to a 29-12 advantage after the opening period.
They pushed that lead to a high of 22 points, 39-17, early in the second quarter.
But the Kings were able to come back to as close as two points, 60-58, in the third period.
The Aces, though, managed to push their lead back up to 15 points in the fourth before weathering another late Ginebra rally that fell short in the end.
Mongolian import Sanchir Tungalag shot just 1/6 from the field to finish with 8 points in 13 minutes.
