PUREFOODS STAR HOTSHOTS over GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER, 101-94
Box scores.
Reigning titlist Star Hotshots once again displayed their championship form as they turned back the GlobalPort Batang Pier, 101-94, for the second straight time to book a ticket to the PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Import Marqus Blakely delivered a triple-double performance of 15 points, 16 rebounds, and 11 assists as the Hotshots overcame GlobalPort’s twice-to-beat edge in the quarterfinals to keep their title defense bid alive.
Stanley Pringle scored all of his 16 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough for GlobalPort, which was able to climb back from 21 points down. Jarrid Famous also had a monster game of 38 points and 21 rebounds.
BPC candidate Terrence Romeo struggled from the field here, making just 5 of his 21 attempts and finishing with 15 points.
Purefoods, meanwhile, got a lot out of its balanced roster anew. Wingmen James Yap and Alex Mallari each tallied 17 points (Mallari also collared 13 boards), while back-ups PJ Simon and Joe Devance also caught fire, dropping 14 and 13 markers respectively. Purefoods will face old nemesis Alaska in the next round.
Line of the Game: Jarrid Famous (GLO) - 38pts, 21rebs, 2blks, 1stl, 12/23 FGs.
