The San Miguel Beermen clinched the final spot in the PBA Governors’ Cup semifinal round after routing Meralco, 102-86, in their do-or-die quarterfinal rubber match on Monday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
San Miguel, the No. 2 seed after the elimination round, joined fellow qualifiers Alaska, Rain or Shine and Star in the semis. They will face the Elasto Painters in a best-of-five series.
Import AZ Reid posted 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists, while PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo had a big outing, finishing with 22 points and 16 boards for the Beermen.
Marcio Lassiter, who hit 3 three-pointers in the fourth quarter, scored 17, while Arwind Santos added 15 – all in the first half.
The Beermen outscored the Bolts, 35-21, in the fourth quarter to put the outcome beyond doubt.
Andre Emmett paced the Bolts with 28 points and 12 rebounds, while Reynel Hugnatan and Gary David added 17 and 16 markers respectively.
