#PBA2016 Philippine Cup Quarterfinals Roundup: December 25, 2015

The quarterfinals of the 2015-2016 PBA Philippine Cup kicked off yesterday with more heart-stopping action that one could expect, even for a game between bitter rivals Ginebra and Star. In the end, GlobalPort survived a gritty Barako Bull to book a phase two face off with Ginebra on Sunday!

GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER over BARAKO BULL ENERGY, 94-85

The GlobalPort Batang Pier moved into the next phase of the SMART BRO PBA Philippine Cup’s quarterfinal round after defeating Barako Bull, 94-85, on a Christmas Day playoff game at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Terrence Romeo exploded for 33 points, alongside nine rebounds and five assists, to lead No.5 seed GlobalPort, which entered the game with a twice-to-beat advantage. He scored all but five of his points in the second half and connected on six three-pointers in the game.

Stanley Pringle, Romeo’s running-mate in the explosive Batang Pier backcourt, had a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds in the win.

GlobalPort is now slated to meet Barangay Ginebra in the next round.

Willie Wilson stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 assists for Barako Bull, which is now eliminated from the conference.

The Barangay Ginebra faithful received one heck of a Christmas gift as LA Tenorio and the rest of the Kings gave their fans an epic Manila Clasico overtime win over the Star Hotshots, 92-89, in the SMART BRO PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals on Christmas Day at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Ginebra made an incredible 18-point comeback in the fourth quarter to force and extra period before Tenorio stunned Star in the overtime with a game-winning three-pointer right at the final buzzer.

The Kings advanced to the next round of quarters, where they will take on the GlobalPort Batang Pier in a knockout match for a semifinals seat. The Hotshots, meanwhile, were eliminated from the playoffs with the loss.

Sol Mercado had 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists for Ginebra. He hit four three-pointers – all of them in the last 30 seconds of regulation or in overtime.



Greg Slaughter finished with just 12 points while Tenorio, the hero of the game, finished with 11 points and a team-high six assists.

Mark Caguioa and Joe Devance also reached double-figures with 10 points while three others – Japeth Aguilar, Chris Ellis and popular rookie Scottie Thompson – finished with nine apiece.

Peter June Simon led Star with 17 points, while Ian Sangalang had 13.
