#PBA2016 Philippine Cup Semifinals Roundup: January 4, 2016

The semifinals of the 2015-2016 PBA Philippine Cup got off to a rousing start as GlobalPort exceeded expectations in their convincing Game 1 victory over top-seeded Alaska. Not surprisingly, Terrence Romeo was at the forefront of the assault, pouring in a career-high 41 points.

GlobalPort’s top gun Terrence Romeo did not disappoint in his team’s first-ever semifinal appearance, scoring 41 points as the Batang Pier took Game One of their SMART BRO PBA Philippine Cup best-of-seven series against the top-seeded Alaska Aces, 107-93, on Monday at the Mall of Asia Arena.




GlobalPort opened the game on a dizzying 24-6 run and never really looked back as they held off repeated Alaska rallies before taking a 1-0 lead in their semis series.

Romeo, who is leading the PBA in scoring in the current conference, shot 12-for-21 (57%) from the field, 6-for-11 (54%) from three-point range and a near-perfect 11-for-12 (91%) from the line. He also had four assists, tied for game-high honors.



Stanley Pringle added 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Billy Mamaril and Keith Jensen both finished with 12.

Cyrus Baguio led Alaska with 15 points, while Vic Manuel had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. RJ Jazul also finished with 14.

Calvin Abueva scored 12 points but missed plenty of easy opportunities, shooting just 1-for-8 (12%) from the charity stripe.
