Meralco and Bgy. Ginebra gained ground with separate wins last night in the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup.

MERALCO BOLTS over RAIN OR SHINE ELASTO-PAINTERS, 109-102

The Meralco Bolts got off to an electric start and never looked back as they cruised past Rain or Shine, 109-102, in the Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup on Wednesday at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Meralco rattled off 16 unanswered points to open the game with import Allen Durham and Chris Newsome setting the tone with eight points apiece.
Durham finished with 32 points, 12 rebounds and five assists while Newsome led a group of five local Bolts players in double figures in the game.
Newsome and Bryan Faundo each scored 12 markers, Cliff Hodge contributed 11 while Baseer Amer and Jared Dillinger each added 10. Jimmy Alapag came close with nine points and a game-high seven assists.
Meralco ended a two-game skid and improved to 3-2 for the conference while Rain or Shine dropped to 2-2.
Dior Lowhorn paced ROS with 25 points, while Jericho Cruz added 15 off the bench.

The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings picked up a third straight victory in the Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup after beating the Blackwater Elite, 107-95, on Wednesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Import Justin Brownlee flirted with a triple-double with 27 points, nine rebounds and eight assists while LA Tenorio had an efficient shooting night with 23 points on 10-for-12 shooting from the field.
Japeth Aguilar also played well, tallying 19 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks while dueling with Blackwater’s big man JP Erram, who had 13 points, 11 boards and four blocks.
Ginebra is now 4-1 in the conference standings while Blackwater dropped to 1-3.
Eric Dawson and JP Erram combined to score 39 points and grab 29 rebounds for the Elite.
