#PBA2016 Govs’ Cup Roundup: August 26, 2016



The underdogs cashed in last night as Mahindra upended TNT and Phoenix upset NLEX in the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup.

MAHINDRA ENFORCER over KA TROPA TNT, 107-104

The Mahindra Enforcer put an end to the TNT KaTropa’s six-game winning streak to open the Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup after an impressive 107-104 victory on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Import James White posted 24 points and 10 rebounds while Paolo Taha added 15 in a strong showing for Mahindra. Both players earned themselves 10 attempts from the free throw line with White making all of his and Taha going 7-for-10 from the stripe.


KG Canaleta added 13 markers, LA Revilla had 12 and Mike Digregorio chipped in with 11 for the Enforcer, which has surprised with their performance this conference.

Even with the loss, TNT remained on top of the standings with a 6-1 record although Mahindra is right behind them at 6-2, good for solo second place.

TNT’s Jayson Castro led the losing side with 33 points and five assists.

PHOENIX FUEL MASTERS over NLEX ROAD WARRIORS, 95-91 (OT)

The Phoenix Fuel Masters picked up a crucial victory as it edged out the NLEX Road Warriors, 95-91, in overtime in the Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Phoenix import Eugene Phelps led the way with 29 points and 26 big rebounds while Cyrus Baguio also finished in double figures with 10.

Three other players – Willy Wilson, Ronjay Buenafe and Josh Urbiztondo – chipped in with nine markers each.

With the win, Phoenix improved to 3-4 while NLEX dropped to 3-5.

Henry Walker paced NLEX with 23 points, while Kevin Alas added 16.

Henry Walker (NLX) - 23pts, 11rebs, 3asts, 1stl.
