Asian Basketball Journal - March 2, 2015

Here in the Philippines there really is no site (or person) really dedicated to the Asian hoops scene, which is why this series exists. Through this series of Asian Basketball Journals, I hope to address just that void. I believe that Asian basketball is such a vibrant source of stories, and I think this should be shared with hoop nuts here in the Philippines and beyond.

Like in previous posts, I won’t be going into a lot of detail. I’ll use mostly images and then just add captions to each one that will, hopefully, capture the essence of the latest developments in Asian hoops.

Here are the highlights of this past week in Asian basketball:
- The CBA semifinals are in full swing. Defensing champ Beijing leads GuangDong, 2-1, in their series, while second-seeded Laioning holds a 2-0 edge over Qingdao in the other.
- Defending champ Ulsan Mobis Phoebus just won the regular season title in the KBL. It’s nearly time for the playoffs to begin with Wonju, Seoul, Changwon, Goyang, and Incheon among the teams almost certain to advance!
- The long NBL season in Japan is not yet over, with teams still busy jostling for position. The biggest result this week was West-leading Aisin beating Chiba, which is teetering at fifth place in the East.
- The SBL in Taiwan has also finished its regular season, with the top two teams — Pure Youth and the Fubon Braves — waiting in the semis as the 3rd to 6th place teams battle in the quarterfinals.
- The second conference of the IBF Superleague has also started. Azad University and Mahram-Tehran have taken the helm with identical 3-0 records.
- Lebanese basketball was jolted with a game-stopping brawl between bitter rivals Al Riyadi and Sagesse. Ali Mahmoud and Terrell Stoglin figured in a fist-fight that halted their match in favor of Riyadi.
