GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER over PUREFOODS STAR HOTSHOTS, 91-89

The GlobalPort Batang Pier picked up one of the biggest victories in the franchise’s young history, defeating the Star Hotshots, 91-89, on Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
GlobalPort improved to 3-0 to continue the best start in the team’s history while also notching a first-ever win over last season’s Grand Slam champions.
Asian import Omar Krayem scored 20 points, 17 of those in the second half, to lead the Batang Pier. He scored eight of those points in a 14-4 fourth quarter run that swung the game in GlobalPort’s favor.
Krayem shot an efficient 8-for-12 from the field and 4-for-7 from three-point range.
Terrence Romeo added 17 points, while Stanley Pringle came off the bench to score 15. Both players also made some big shots late for the team.
Romeo broke an 87-all deadlock after putting back a miss from teammate Doug Kramer, while Pringle made a huge shot driving to the basket, giving GlobalPort a 91-87 lead with just 12 seconds remaining on the clock.
GlobalPort’s interim import, Steve Thomas, had 12 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists in his first game back in the PBA. He is only expected to hold the fort until first choice import Jarrid Famous becomes available next week.
Purefoods, which fell to 1-1, was led by Marqus Blakely, who had 19 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, three steals and four blocks. James Yap added 12 points.

SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over RAIN OR SHINE ELASTO-PAINTERS, 104-91

The San Miguel Beermen, behind a second half explosion from import Arizona Reid, finally got on the win column as it defeated debuting Rain or Shine, 104-91, in PBA Governors’ Cup action on Tuesday at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Reid scored 36 points – 28 of those coming in the third and fourth quarters – alongside 11 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the team.
PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo also had a big night, finishing with 22 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field, 18 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
Balik-import Wendell McKines finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for Rain or Shine.
Paul Lee scored 17, Quinahan and Gabe Norwood each had 12, and Jericho Cruz added 11 for the Commissioner’s Cup runners-up.
