#PBA2015 Govs Cup Roundup: May 17, 2015

Action in the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup continued to heat up yesterday as the San Miguel Beermen halted GlobalPort’s unbeaten run, while the Meralco Bolts caught a big fish after beating the Purefoods Star Hotshots.

The San Miguel Beermen tabbed erstwhile unbeaten GlobalPort with its first loss of the PBA Governors’ Cup in impressive fashion, 124-102, on Sunday at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Import Arizona Reid and Marcio Lassiter combined to score 35 of San Miguel’s 41 points in a dominating third quarter, where they outscored GlobalPort by 18 to blow the game wide open.

Reid finished with 41 big points, with only two coming in a lopsided fourth quarter. He shot 16-for-28 from the field and 9-for-11 from three-point range.


His nine three-pointers matched a San Miguel franchise record for most in a single game, tying Lamont Strothers and Boybits Victoria’s respective feats in the early 2000s, according to PBA head of statistics Fidel Mangonon III.

Lassiter added 24 points, including five triples, while Chris Ross chipped in with 17.

San Miguel, which made 18 threes on a 54.5% shooting clip, improved to 2-2 for the conference while GlobalPort dropped to 3-1.

Interim import Steve Thomas finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds for GlobalPort, while Romeo tied for team-high honors with 21 of his own.

Kramer added 16 points and 9 boards in a solid showing for the Batang Pier.

MERALCO BOLTS over PUREFOODS STAR HOTSHOTS, 83-81

Import Andre Emmett displayed an all-around game with 37 points and 15 rebounds and also made huge plays down the stretch as the Meralco Bolts survived the Star Hotshots, 83-81, in PBA Governors’ Cup action Sunday at Cuneta Astrodome.

Emmett also made six assists and five steals to help Meralco outlast Purefoods Star in a nip-and-tuck affair between the two teams.

It was a close game all throughout, with both teams exchanging leads for the entire game. The biggest lead was just six points, 42-36, which Purefoods had in the second quarter where Emmett buried a three-point shot from almost halfcourt at the buzzer.

Asian import Seiya Ando was the only Bolt to finish with double digits at 11, but they got some crucial contributions from Ildefonso, who scored eight points off the bench for Meralco, which improved to 2-2.

Blakely led the Hotshots with 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists although he also committed 10 turnovers. Devance added 15 for Star that lost its second straight game for a 1-2 record.
