PHOENIX FUEL MASTERS over BLACKWATER ELITE, 93-81

Import Eugene Phelps collected 29 points and 26 rebounds as his monster numbers carried the Phoenix Fuel Masters to a 93-81 win over the struggling Blackwater Elite in the PBA Governors’ Cup Wednesday at Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Phelps also helped spark a late fourth quarter run that ultimately held off the Elite (1-8) who are now eliminated from contention after suffering their seventh straight loss.
Mark Borboran had a surprise contribution of 15 points, while Simon Enciso and Cyrus Baguio tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Fuel Masters (5-4) who strengthened their grip on the No.6 spot after their third straight win.

ALASKA ACES over GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER, 133-106

The Alaska Aces turned in a terrific offensive performance as they torched the GlobalPort Batang Pier, 133-106, in a high-scoring Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup shootout on Wednesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Alaska shot 51-for-92 (55%) from the field and 14-for-26 (53%) from beyond the arc as they flaunted their full offensive arsenal against GlobalPort, scoring 38 points in each of the last two periods.
Import LaDontae Henton posted 33 points, 13 rebounds and four assists to lead the way for the Aces but he had more than enough support from his locals.
Calvin Abueva scored 21 points on 8-for-12 (66%) shooting while Chris Banchero finished with 20 markers, including a perfect 3-for-3 clip from three-point range in a balanced showing for Alaska. Three other local players – Jvee Casio, Sonny Thoss and RJ Jazul – reached double-digits as well.
The GlobalPort side also saw some terrific individual performances as Terrence Romeo, Stanley Pringle and import Michael Glover all posted at least 20 points in the loss.

NLEX ROAD WARRIORS over GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER, 114-98

NLEX’s Garvo Lanete had a career-high performance as his Road Warriors left the GlobalPort Batang Pier in its dust, 114-98, in a crucial Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup clash on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
NLEX import Henry Walker posted 35 points but got plenty of help from Lanete, who scored 25 points, including five three-pointers, in another terrific offensive performance for the Road Warriors.
Lanete is on a roll of late, having just tied his old career-high of 21 points in the team’s previous game before breaking it outright in this one.
Jonas Villanueva added 14 markers while Kevin Alas chipped in with 11. Asi Taulava also had a big game, notching a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds for NLEX, which improved to 5-5 after picking up a second straight win.
GlobalPort dropped to 3-7, good for 10th place with only eight teams entering the playoffs.

BGY. GINEBRA GIN KINGS over MAHINDRA ENFORCERS, 93-86

The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings settled down and took care of business as they picked up a big victory over Mahindra, 93-86, in an important Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup clash of Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
In a battle between Ginebra, the No. 2 team in the league, and Mahindra, which entered the game tied for third and fourth places, it was the Kings that proved their mettle, improving to 7-2 and placing itself on the inside track for a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinal round.
Import Justin Brownlee led Ginebra with 27 points, 17 rebounds and four assists while Japeth Aguilar had a huge game with 19 points, four rebounds and three blocks for Ginebra.
Fan favorite Scottie Thompson also played well, notching 12 points and 12 rebounds in the crucial victory. The team has now won six of their last seven games, including the last three.
Mahindra fell below San Miguel (6-3) and dropped to fourth place with a 6-4 mark.
