The 2016-2017 PBA Philippine Cup continued to churn out great hardcourt action this past week with the Aces, Hotshots, Elasto-Painters, and Blots all notching victories.

ALASKA ACES over GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER, 95-84

Calvin Abueva made sure his presence was felt in his season debut, dominating in the fourth quarter to dig his Alaska team back from a big deficit and clinch its first victory in the Oppo PBA Philippine Cup, 95-84, over erstwhile unbeaten GlobalPort on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
With his team trailing by eight points with under seven minutes left in the game, Abueva scored the first 10 points in a 20-4 Alaska run that swung the game the other way.
‘The Beast’ finished with 22 points – 15 in the fourth quarter – alongside 11 rebounds to lead the Aces.
JVee Casio hit a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and finished with 15 points while Vic Manuel, back from serving a one-game team suspension, chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds from off the bench.
It was Alaska’s first win in three games this conference while GlobalPort, the last remaining unbeaten team heading into this contest, dropped to 2-1.

STAR HOTSHOTS over NLEX ROAD WARRIORS, 99-75

The Star Hotshots, led by some of their new acquisitions, dominated in the second half as they defeated NLEX, 99-75, to pick up their first win in the Oppo PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Star led by only three points at the half but outscored their opponents, 57-36, in the latter two periods to secure the victory.
Paul Lee led the way with 20 points alongside seven assists while rookie Jio Jalalon posted 17 points, five rebounds and five steals.
Jalalon did most of his damage in the third quarter, where he scored 11 points, while Lee torched NLEX for 13 points in the fourth period, including three triples.
Aldrech Ramos, another newcomer to the Star fold, scored 13 points to help the cause.
The Hotshots and the Road Warriors are now tied in the standings with identical 1-2 records.

RAIN OR SHINE ELASTO-PAINTERS over BLACKWATER ELITE, 107-93

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters bounced back from a tough loss in their previous game after they dumped Blackwater, 107-93, in the Oppo PBA Philippine Cup on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
James Yap scored 15 points to lead Rain or Shine while Raymond Almazan tallied 14 points and 16 rebounds in a big double-double performance for the Elasto Painters, who have now won three of their four games this conference.
Three other players reached double figures in scoring as Jewel Ponferada added 13 and Jeff Chan and Don Trollano each chipped in 11 markers.
Blackwater, which started the conference with two consecutive wins, have now lost back-to-back games to crash down to 2-2. The Elite’s super rookie Mac Belo, who had been averaging 21 points per game, only had 13 in this one – his lowest output so far.

MERALCO BOLTS over TNT KA TROPA, 98-87

Rookie Ed Daquioag scored 10 of Meralco’s last 14 points as the Bolts ran away with the game late to beat TNT, 98-87, in the Oppo PBA Philippine Cup on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Daquioag finished with 23 points for a second consecutive game as he helped lead Meralco to a second win in three games.
Rabeh Al-Hussaini added 14 points for the Bolts while Chris Newsome flirted with a triple-double as he tallied 11 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in the victory.
TNT, which dropped down to 2-2, was led by Jayson Castro’s 23 markers.
