#PBA2017 Philippine Cup Roundup: December 10-11, 2016

The 2016-2017 PBA Philippine Cup had an exciting weekend that was highlighted by victories from Star, San Miguel Beer, and GlobalPort.


Game Capsules (adapted from Interaksyon): 

STAR HOTSHOTS over PHOENIX FUEL MASTERS, 123-79
Box Scores. 

The Star Hotshots made it back-to-back wins in the Oppo PBA Philippine Cup after a huge victory over Phoenix, 123-79, on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Paul Lee scored 18 points – 15 of those in the first half – alongside three rebounds and four assists to lead Star. Allen Maliksi also pumped in 18 points from off the bench while Peter June Simon added 15 on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting clip.


Three other Hotshots – Justin Melton, Jio Jalalon and Mark Barroca – finished in double figures.

It was the Hotshots’ second straight blowout win after beating NLEX by 24 last Wednesday. Both Star and Phoenix have 2-2 records.

Simon Enciso had 16 points to pace Phoenix.

SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over MAHINDRA FLOODBUSTER, 94-91

San Miguel’s June Mar Fajardo put together another dominating performance but that didn’t mean his Beermen had it easy against a tough Mahindra team, 94-91, in an Oppo PBA Philippine Clash on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

‘The Kraken’ scored 28 points, making 12 of his 13 of his field goal attempts as well as all four of his free throws. He also threw his weight around on the boards, grabbing 15 rebounds – eight of those on the offensive end.

Arwind Santos added 18 points while Alex Cabagnot chipped in with 15 markers to help lead SMB.

The Beermen tied the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters atop the conference standings at 3-1 while the Floodbuster, despite the gutsy performance, sank to 0-4.

Alex Mallari had 21 points to lead Mahindra, which had the chance to tie the game in the dying seconds.

HIGHLIGHTS:



GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER over BGY. GINEBRA GIN KINGS, 91-84
Box Scores. 

Terrence Romeo scored 35 points – 21 of those after halftime – as he led GlobalPort past Barangay Ginebra, 91-84, in the Oppo PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Romeo shot 12-for-24 (50-percent) from the field and 5-for-9 (55-percent) from beyond the arc in a sizzling shooting performance for the Batang Pier, who moved up to 3-1, grabbing a share of the lead in the standings.

JR Quinahan added 15 points and nine rebounds while Stanley Pringle posted 12 points, five rebounds and four assists.

KG Canaleta chipped in with 10 markers while Mike Cortez finished with just six points but grabbed eight rebounds, including two crucial ones in the endgame.

Barangay Ginebra was led by LA Tenorio and Japeth Aguilar, who each scored 23 points, but it wasn’t enough to keep them from dropping to 1-2.
