“My approach to basketball has always been this; you can only get out of the game what you put in – and that’s what Take on Summer is all about,” said point guard Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers. “That’s the mentality I bring to my training and being able to share that attitude overseas to fans and players is an honor. Fans attending the Take on Summer tours will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and interact with their favorite players at exclusive events including basketball demonstrations and games, in-store appearances, social media campaigns and more.

Pumped Up Kicks: The adidas #DRose5 Boost

I’ll start with the bottom-line: GET BOOSTED NOW.

As Derrick Rose makes his return (again) to the Chicago Bulls and the NBA, adidas just released Rose’s new signature shoe — the D Rose 5 Boost. Aside from coinciding with the former MVP’s comeback campaign, however, another thing that make the D Rose 5 pretty special is this: it’s the first basketball sneak to have full-length Boost technology, which makes it reasonable for us to expect that, as advertised, Boost should help provide superior energy return and responsiveness without sacrificing comfort.

Thanks to adidas Philippines, I was given the chance to test a pair and review them to have all you sneakerheads well-informed.

Derrick Rose's new shoe debuts just in time for
the start of the 2014-2015 season!

Here’s what I found:

#NBA2015: Players to Watch - Part One

With the 2014-2015 NBA season beginning in fewer than 10 days, I found it just right to look at some players we should all keep tabs on. There are no-brainers like LeBron, KD, CP3, and James Harden, of course, but there are also many other characters on whom we should put the spotlight. In this first of five parts, we’ll take a look at some key guys for the Hawks, Celtics, Nets, Hornets, Bulls, and Cavs.

A few guys hoping to make the jump, a couple who might get traded, and a
former MVP trying to return to form.

PR: The adidas Crazy Light Boost and D Rose 5 Boost!

adidas BRINGS GAME-CHANGING ENERGY TO THE COURT WITH boost Basketball Shoes
NBA superstars Derrick Rose and Damian Lillard to debut Crazylight Boost and D Rose 5 Boost

PORTLAND, Ore. (July 27, 2014) – adidas today introduced its game-changing Boost cushioning technology to basketball with the all-new Crazylight Boost and D Rose 5 Boost performance basketball shoes. Boost is an industry-first cushioning technology designed to deliver maximum energy return, responsiveness and comfort to players.

The new Boost line of kicks from #trefoil will surely shake up
the sneaker landscape!
“Having the Boost cushioning in my new signature shoe makes it the most favorite of mine that we’ve ever done,” said Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose. “I’ve played in them for a couple months, but every time I put them on it feels like a new shoe and it’s the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn. Now, I can’t imagine playing without Boost in my shoes.”

True to adidas’ mission to make athletes better, Boost features innovative material made up of thousands of capsules that help store and release energy efficiently as athletes perform. The Crazylight Boost will be available in the Philippines on Aug. 15 for Php 6995 while the D Rose 5 Boost will drop Oct. 16 for Php 7995.

The NBA: BULLS***!!!

Not again! Derrick Rose could miss the
entire season due to a knee injury.
(Image from: USA Today Sports)

I am not a Chicago Bulls fan but I respect and admire Derrick Rose. I have liked him since his freshman year in the NCAA with the Memphis Tigers in 2007-08. Actually, I am a Miami Heat fan which is a rival of the Bulls but I still like Rose as a player. He is fearless, quick, explosive and very competitive on the court. Rose is a dynamic playmaker and an amazing finisher at the rim. Off the court, he is modest, unassuming, shy and a good example to kids everywhere.

His latest injury to his right knee which is a torn meniscus could keep him sidelined for the entire season AGAIN. This happened versus the Blazers last Friday and it happened without any physical contact from others. People were so worried that it was another ACL injury that when it was announced that it was "just" a torn meniscus, some had a sigh of relief (including me). Remember, he injured his left knee and ACL last April 2012 and it took him 18 months to fully recover mentally and physically. His surgery will be on Monday and the extent of his injury will be revealed when the doctors cut him up.

The best-case scenario for D-Rose is to repair/reattach his meniscus which could take several months to recover from. A similar procedure was done on OKC's Russell Westbrook and it took him about 7 months to get back on the court at full strength. Another procedure is to remove his meniscus (like Brandon Roy) and that would typically result in a much faster recovery period from months becoming just weeks. For example, Metta World Peace had his meniscus removed late last season and it took him less than 2 weeks to get back to playing. The drawback of removing Rose's meniscus this early is the potential for more nagging knee injuries and knee pain (like Dwyane Wade). The worst-case scenario for Rose is having major knee problems similar to what Brandon Roy experienced which forced him to retire early twice.

The NBA Roundup: November 22-23, 2013

A slew of injuries dotted today’s lineup of games, as D-Rose, Marc Gasol, and Iggy will all undergo MRIs tomorrow. Meanwhile, KD continued to impress for OKC, while SAS and POR extended their respective winning runs.

The Best:
  • Kevin Durant continued to showcase his sublime shooting, dropping 28 points on 10/19 FG shooting as the Thunder beat the Clippers. KD also grabbed 6 boards and handed out 8 assists in a superb offensive assault. Durant currently leads the league with 29.5 points per game.
  • A few days ago, Pau Gasol promised to donate $1,000 for every point he would score against the Warriors. As it turns out, the Spaniard will be donating $24,000 to the Typhoon Haiyan relief effort after scoring 24 points in the Lakers’ huge win over Golden State. Gasol also filled the sheet with 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block in an inspired effort.
  • Spencer Hawes continued his own strong start to the season, hitting 3 triples and shooting 11/16 overall as his Sixers defeated the Bucks. Hawes had great numbers from last season, but a slew of injuries converted a lot of believers in to doubters, but, so far, he has been nothing short of great for Philly. Hawes is norming a 16-10 double-double through 14 games, making about 2 treys per outing, and converting on nearly 50% of his threes.

The Worst:
  • The shooting duo of Jared Dudley and JJ Redick sputtered big time as the Clips fell short against OKC. As a pair, Dudley and Redick shot 6/20 from the field and combined for just 15 points in 61 minutes. They connected on a total of 2 triples after attempting a combined 10. Can you say ice cold?
  • Injuries galore. Derrick Rose came down with another knee injury. Ditto with Marc Gasol. Both are possible ACL tears. Andre Iguosala, meanwhile, strained his hamstring in GSW’s loss to the Lakers. All three are due for MRIs to determine the extent of their conditions.
