Box Scores.
The San Miguel Beermen needed to play defense until the very last second, but it paid off in the end as they escaped rival Talk ‘N Text in a 96-95 squeaker to take a commanding 3-0 lead in their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series.

Alex Cabagnot hit the go-ahead free throw for San Miguel with 12 seconds remaining and, though Talk ‘N Text had a shot to win the game on the final possession, the smothering Beermen defense shut down Ranidel De Ocampo in the dying seconds to come away with another W in Game Three of the best-of-seven clash.

Arwind Santos led the way 23 points, including a clutch three-pointer inside the last two-minute mark, while June Mar Fajardo added 18 points and 9 rebounds for the Beermen.

Marcio Lassiter also gave San Miguel a boost, scoring 17 points, 12 of them in the third quarter, from off the bench. Fellow reserve Rico Maierhofer finished with 10 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting from the field.

Talk ‘N Text led 76-75 heading into the final period, but they couldn’t hold on in the endgame.

Santos looked like he would put the game away with a booming triple that made it 95-91 with 1:34 remaining, but De Ocampo responded with a clutch three of his own, bringing Talk ‘N Text back to within a solitary point, 95-94.

Jimmy Alapag then stripped Cabagnot on the next possession and Jayson Castro was fouled, though he could only make one of his two attempts, tying the game at 95-all with 48.3 seconds left to play.

Cabagnot made up for it by drawing a foul on the other end and giving San Miguel the lead back, 96-95, leaving just 8.5 seconds for Talk ‘N Text to make a play.

De Ocampo, who led Talk ‘N Text with 21 points, missed a shot in the final seconds as time ran out on the Tropang Texters. Castro added 15 markers, 6 boards, and 5 dimes for TNT, which is now staring directly at a 0-3 deficit that no team has ever overhauled.

Line of the Game: Ranidel De Ocampo - 21pts, 6rebs, 5asts, 1stl, 6 triples, 7/14 FGs.
