Asian Basketball Journal - December 23, 2014

Here in the Philippines there is no site (or person) really dedicated to the Asian hoops scene, which is why this series exists. Through this series of Asian Basketball Journals, I hope to address just that void. I believe that Asian basketball is such a vibrant source of stories, and I think this should be shared with hoop nuts here in the Philippines and beyond.

Like in previous posts, I won’t be going into a lot of detail. I’ll use mostly images and then just add captions to each one that will, hopefully, capture the essence of the latest developments in Asian hoops.

It was another crazy week of Asian Hoops!

Here are the highlights of this past week in Asian basketball:
- Shanxi and Qingdao were the big winners this past week, shooting past Xinjiang in the standings, while Liaoning and Guangdong maintained their spots as the league’s top two teams.
- Over in the KBL, the Wonju Dongbu Promy continued to do really well, staying solidly at third place after big wins over the Goyang Orions and the Seoul Samsung Thunder.
- In the NBL, the Aisin Seahorses remained undefeated after 18 games, while the Hitachi Sunrockers won their back-to-back against the Hyogo Storks.
- Meanwhile in Taiwan, defending champ Pure Youth sank to a tie for second place with the Fubon Braves, while Taiwan Beer rose to first place after beating Yulon.
- As for the Iranian Superleague, the top four clubs — Azad University, Mahram Tehran, Petrochimi Bandar Immam, and Naft Abadan — remained in their respective spots after big wins in this past week.
- Over in Lebanon, Al Riyadi gained its fifth straight win to tie Sagesse at the top of the league table, while Tadamon leveled its win-loss record with a victory over Al Moutahed.

Andray Blatche and the Xinjiang Flying Tigers have been struggling of late, falling to seventh place in the standings.

DongGuan's Ike Diogu protects the ball from Qingdao's Hamed Haddadi. Haddadi's Eagles prevailed in this one, 112-96.

Daniel Orton of Sichuan gets wrestled to the floor by Shang Ping of Tianjin in a crazy bench-clearing brawl.

Zhu Fangyu rifles in one of his three triples as GunagDong beat Shandong, 103-96.

2014-2015 Korean Basketball League (KBL):

Kang Byung-Hyun dropped 5 triples and 22 points on his former team as Anyang KGC beat Jeonju KCC Egis, 75-72.

Korean bulwark Kim Joo-Sung hit 12 of his 15 FGs on his way to 25 points as Wonju Dongbu Promy defeated the Goyang Orions last week.

Ulsan Mobis Phoebus rebounded with two wins this week after absorbing two losses last week.

Yoo Byeong-Hun hit two treys as the Changwon LG Sakers squeaked past the Busan KT Sonic Boom, 93-91.

2014-2015 Japanese National Basketball League (NBL): 

Shintaro Kobayashi tries to go on a drive as the Kumamoto Volters lost to the Aisin Seahorses, 85-70.

Takanori Onishi of Toshiba goes up strong as the Brave Thunders beat the Tsukuba Robots, 86-49.

Yuki Ueta of the Chiba Jets scored 9 points in their big win over Levanga Hokkaido this past week.

2014-2015 Taiwanese Super Basketball League (SBL):

Chou Yi-Hsiang goes up strong for the Dacin Tigers, who beat the Bank of Taiwan, 95-70, for only their fourth win of the season.

Bryan Davis celebrates emphatically after pushing the Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor past the Fubon Braves, 102-101.

Liu Cheng and Jiang Yu-Ann of Taiwan Beer celebrate after they beat Yulon Luxgen, 79-70, for eighth win in eleven games.

Lu Cheng-Ju scored 27 points after hitting 7 triples, but Yulon Luxgen still lost to Pure Youth last week.

Young gun Arman Zangeneh hangs on the rim after a slamma jamma in Mahram Tehran's blowout win over Sanaye.

Masoud Ghasemi of Sanaye tries to drive past the defense of Mahram's Saeid Davarpanah. Ghasemi ended up scoreless in the loss.

National team big man Rouzbeh Arghavan rattles the rim as Azad University beat Gorgan, 57-48.

Jeremiah Massey goes up strong to challenge the Tadamon defense. Massey dropped 15 points as Al Riyadi won, 88-68.

Joey Accaoui tries to get rid of the rock as Tadamon beat Moutahed, 92-70. Accaoui scored 9 points in 24 minutes.

Terrell Stoglin of Sagesse scored 34 big points in their big win over Hoops. Sagesse is now at 5-0 at the top of the standings.
