SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over STAR HOTSHOTS, 103-99
Box Scores.
The top-seeded San Miguel Beermen drew a huge offensive performance from import Tyler Wilkerson and some big contributions from Chris Ross late in the game as they survived a gutsy effort from the upset-seeking Star Hotshots, 103-99, to advance to the Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals on Wednesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Wilkerson more than made up for what some considered a sub-par showing in Game One as he erupted for 46 points and 17 rebounds in this one. Marcio Lassiter added 17 points, including three triples, for the Beermen.
Ross added 13 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals but made the big plays in the clutch, diving for the ball to save a crucial possession and scoring the team’s last four points to put away the Hotshots.
Star, which finished No. 8 in the elimination round, actually led by double-digits late in the third but SMB closed the game out with a 25-12 fourth quarter.
With the win, San Miguel advanced to the final four, where it will face Rain or Shine.
Former MVP Arwind Santos finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for the Beermen. June Mar Fajardo, the reigning league MVP, had just nine points and eight rebounds, but he did make all four of his field goal attempts in the game.
Import Ricardo Ratliffe finished with 24 points and 16 rebounds while Simon added 21 for the Hotshots. Gilas Pilipinas pool member Marc Pingris had 18 points and eight rebounds for Star, which again missed the services of injured superstar James Yap.
Lines of the Game:
Tyler Wilkerson (SMB) - 46pts, 17rebs, 2blks, 1stl, 15/29 FGs
Ricardo Ratliffe (KOR) - 24pts, 16rebs, 2asts, 1blk, 10/18 FGs
