In this Position Battle post, we will focus on the top five point guards in the NBA after the 2016 All-Star Weekend. Not surprisingly, most of the guys on this list play in the Western Conference, and the only East playmaker isn’t even on an American team. Go figure, right?

There shouldn’t be any shockers at #s 1, 2, and 3, but some top-of-mind players may not even make the “On the bubble” list. Among these? No Kyrie, no D-Rose, TP9, and Jeff Teague.

In lieu of a year-ender, I felt it would be better to go position-by-position and look at the best ballers of 2014. 

In this post, I will talk about the guys who did really well in the National Basketball Association in 2014. Perhaps they led their teams to the title. Perhaps they led the league in a certain statistical category. Perhaps they made history. Perhaps they did all of those things.

In this Position Battle post, we will focus on the top five point guards at this point in the season. We will take into account just the players’ stats for the entire season up till December 5, 2014 (Manila time). This will, hopefully, give us a more current picture of each player’s production.

In this list, we have two members of the Team USA iteration that dominated #Spain2014, a couple of veteran playmakers, and the kid who had maybe the best game-winner of last season.

Did you see how he ruined the Knicks? No, I mean, did you really see him drop 37 big ones on the team that ruined LeBron’s homecoming? In the process, did you notice how the Cavs moved up to 10-3 and fifth in the East? Man, if Uncle Drew can keep dropping the boom for the wine and gold, then don’t be surprised if the Cavs keep winning till they face Memphis on December 22 (Manila time). Heck, maybe they even beat the Grizz, too!

          

PR: TORONTO RAPTORS POINT GUARD KYLE LOWRY JOINS ADIDAS

PORTLAND, Ore. (August 2, 2014) – adidas today announced a partnership with Toronto Raptors star point guard Kyle Lowry. The eight-season NBA veteran is coming off of a career-best season in which he averaged 17.9 points, 7.4 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game while leading his team to its first playoff berth in five seasons.

The NBA: Smart Gilas: The Last Home Stand

UPDATE - July 23, 2014
Events for July 22 and 23 have been cancelled. The organizers and PLDT are giving conflicting reasons for the failure of the charity event. One reason talks about the NBA threatening the Fibr All-stars with fines and suspensions if they play in a game not sanctioned by the league. The other reason revolves around the notion that the event "was never promoted as a game". Whatever the actual reason was, the Last Home Stand was an embarrassment. However, that should not influence my support for Smart-Gilas. Laban Pilipinas! #Puso 

Smart Gilas completed a successful run during the recent FIBA Asia Cup at Wuhan, China where they placed their best finish ever at 3rd place and received the bronze medal. Now, Gilas is back in Manila to face another adversary, the Fibr All-Stars. The event will take place at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum during July 22-23.

The Fibr All-Stars are composed of NBA players headed by current Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs and James Harden of the Houston Rockets. They are also reinforced by Brandon Jennings of the Detroit Pistons and a trio of players from the Toronto Raptors (Kyle Lowry, Terrence Ross and DeMar DeRozan).
