WESTPORTS MALAYSIA DRAGONS over CHANG THAILAND SLAMMERS, 106-72
After a disappointing Week 4, the Dragons bounced back, scoring over 100 points to beat the Slammers. Tiras Wade finished the game in style with a big slam to cap off a 26-point performance. Patrick Cabahug and Guga Batumalai provided the needed lift, too, adding a further 26 and13 points respectively. For the Slammers, their big man DeAndre Thomas finished with 17 points.
The Dragons dominated practically every aspect of the game. They hit 11 threes, 4 from Cabahug, and outrebounded the Slammers 42-24. Malaysian import Brian Williams also had a bad fall early in the game and produced only 10 points. He did, however, grab 15 big boards.

SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over SAIGON HEAT, 85-62
SMB leaned on a big third quarter performance to edge out the winless Saigon Heart in Vietnam. Dalron Johnson got his third double-double this season with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 steals while dunk machine Doug Thomas ended with a double-double line of 18 points, which included 5 dunks, and 10 rebounds. As for Saigon, Jonathan Jones led the scoring with 26 points while Julius Hodge added 23 points and 13 rebounds.
Jones and Hodge are still carrying the scoring load for Saigon. Pinoy-American Point guard John Smith did not make a big impact today as he only scored 6 points and turned the ball over 7 times. Saigon were able to keep up with the Beermen in the first half, but the Beermen, who were looking for their fourth win this season, stepped it up in the 3rd quarter. Johnson started the quarter by scoring 8 straight points to give the Beermen some more breathing room. SMB had its biggest lead in the game at 83-59 after Johnson hit a follow-up. This is now the Heat’s 6th straight loss.
The Beermen’s reserves made a big difference in this game. Leo Avenido scored 16 points while Allan Mangahas added 11. Saigon still needs to get more out of its other players. Apart from Hodge and Jones, the rest of team was able to score only 13 points.

INDONESIA WARRIORS over BANGKOK COBRAS, 73-57
Steve Thomas would not be denied.
The Warriors center was a demon at both ends of the floor, scoring 24 points and collecting 17 rebounds, as the Indonesia Warriors easily took care of business on the road, beating the hometown Bangkok Cobras.
The Warriors also benefitted from the contributions of Jonathan Smith, who had 18 points, and Filipino Allan Salangsang, who finished with 12.
The Bangkok Cobras, meanwhile, could not find their scoring touch, shooting a collective 34%, disappointing their fans at the Chulalongkorn Sporting Centre. They were also outrebounded, 23-32, and had less assists, 7-13. Bangkok’s imports, Gentry Lewis and Michael Earl, were ineffective here, combining for just 20 points on 8-of-19 FG shooting.

AIRASIA PHILIPPINE PATRIOTS over SINGAPORE SLINGERS, 80-75
This was a clash of the two teams that sat at the top of the table coming into Week 5. For the Patriots, this was also a chance to extend a 3-game winning streak.
With Nakiea Miller hampered by foul trouble, other players stepped up for the Pats. Anthony Johnson topscored with 26 big points, but it was the efforts of the locals that made the biggest difference here.
Al Vergara, Angelus Raymundo, and Aldrech Ramos all played well, scoring 14, 11, and 9 points respectively to help propel the Patriots to the top of the standings.
It was a close game all throughout, with the Slingers relying on their outside shooting (they hit 8 triples as opposed to just 4 for the Pinoys), even as the Patriots played stronger down low, outscoring the Slingers 38-18 in the paint.
Another big factor here were the 24 turnovers committed by Singapore, mostly off the 14 steals by the Patriots.
Louis Graham and Chris Canta led the Slingers’ losing cause with 19 markers each.
