“We need to be better, and that starts with me.” – Charlotte Bobcats Team Captain Corey Maggette.
Yikes. A team that HAS to be better starting with Corey Maggette is indeed in pretty deep… trouble.
And the Bobcats are, in almost every sense of the term, in deep trouble.
Charlotte is now 3-24. That’s a winning % of about 12.5%. That’s exactly what the worst winning % in NBA history is. The thing is, with only 39 games to go, the Cats are actually on pace to finish as the worst team.
Ever.
If they continue on this dismal trajectory, the Bobcats will win no more than 8 games when the regular season gives way to the postseason.
8 games. Just imagine that. 8 out of 66. That means you only get to win once every 8 or so games.
Damn that’s awful.
Oh, forget awful. It’s downright horrible.
Proof of how bad Charlotte’s been playing?
They’re dead last in points-per-game – 86.3 ppg only.
They’re also dead last (by dead last I mean they allow the most points) in points-allowed-per-game – 100.9 ppg.
That’s a 14-point difference. EVERY GAME.
And, really, is there any other stat that can compare to that?
Okay, how about this.
Boris Diaw, yes the Boris Diaw who was kind-of-a-star with Phoenix and who was once a triple-double threat, and Tyrus Thomas, the Tyrus Thomas everyone in Chicago thought would break out, are averaging, okay promise you won’t laugh, a combined 15.4ppg and 10.6rpg. That’s two guys. That’s the whole starting frontline. I mean, Ryan Anderson’s averages are just about the same – ON HIS OWN. Heck, their own teammate Byron Mullens is averaging more than either Diaw or Thomas, and he plays about 4-5 minutes less than each of those two.
It’s just preposterous.
This whole team is preposterous.
And when they do finish the season at 8-58?
These charred Charlotte Bobcats will be nothing more than ridiculous.

NYK over MIN, 100-98 –
Jeremy Lin crashed back down to earth in the second half, but, somehow, he still found a way to will the Knicks to their 5th straight W. Lin hit a free throw with 4.9 seconds left to lift New York. Lin ended up with 20 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds. Steve Novak continued playing well, too, finishing with 15 markers.
SAS over NJN, 103-89 –
TD won’t play in the All-Star Game for the first time in his career, but he’s still playing like one. Duncan recorded double-double #9 for the season with 13 points and 10 boards, leading the Spurs to their seventh win in a row. Five other San Antonio guys scored in twin digits, while the returning Manu Ginobili tossed in 8 markers and 4 dimes in 17 minutes.
PHI over CLE, 99-84 –
The Clippers handed them their first back-to-back losses of the season, but these Sixers didn’t waste any time bouncing back against the short-handed Cavs. Jrue Holiday’s 20 points led 5 other Sixers in double-figures as Cleveland struggled without both Anderson Varejao (broken right wrist) and Kyrie Irving (concussion).
LAC over CHA, 111-86 –
Another day, another blowout for the Bobcats – the wrong kind. This is the kind of blowout you don’t want to be in, simply because you’re the one being blown out. It seemed like men against boys as CP3, BG, and DeAndre Jordan all had double-doubles after just three periods of play. Paul played just 28 minutes, but still finished with 18 points and 14 assists. Griffin scored 21 and grabbed 10 boards, while Jordan ended up with 11 markers and 12 caroms.
DEN over IND, 113-109 –
The Nuggets finally caught a break, snapping their 5-game skid by beating the Pacers on the road. All-Star snub Danny Granger led the losing effort with 26 points as Indiana now finds itself in a quandary – they’ve lost four of their last five matches. Ty Lawson, Arron Afflalo, and Corey Brewer led the hobbling Nuggets with 27, 23, and 19 points respectively.
DAL over POR, 97-94 (2OT) –
Dirk had another 20-point game, Terry added 19, Marion had a double-double, and the Mavs won their third straight. Mark Cuban must be beaming. Dallas had to withstand a vicious fourth-quarter run by Portland, led by the dynamic duo of LaMarcus Aldridge and Jamal Crawford. Crawford, however, had a crucial miss in the second OT that ultimately led to the Mavs’ win.
ORL over MIL, 99-94 –
Jason Richardson hit 9, yes NINE, threes to finish with a season-high 31 as the Magic came from behind to snatch the win. Big D was limited to just 11 points on top of 14 rebounds, so Orlando turned to Richardson, who connected on 8 triples in the second half.
PHX over SAC, 98-84 -
Jared Dudley probably got inspired by the sudden emergence of Jeremy Lin. the not-so-hyped wingman led the Suns with 20 points and 10 rebounds over the Kings. This is now Phoenix’s 3rd straight road win, and an impressive one at that as they never trailed Sacramento. The frontline combo of Markieff Morris, Channing Frye, and Marcin Gortat also came up big, combining for a total of 50 points to counter DeMarcus Cousins’s 26 and 9 production.
