Speeding Bullets:
- The Bullpups are looking like early and imposing frontrunners to defend their UAAP Juniors crown. The returning Raph Atangan remains a consistent offensive options, while RP-Youth standout Hubert Cani and shooter Levi Biteng are looking sharp.
- The Eaglets shot well from the field (57%), but they got buried on the glass (44-30) and were forced to commit 24 turnovers. They surely felt the absence of Gabe Capacio, who is tagged to be one of coach Joe Silva’s main men down low.
- Jeric Diego continues to be the tower-of-power for the Mapua Red Robins, getting another double-double as they scraped past the Arellano Braves in overtime. He could be a legit big man prospect for the Seniors division.
- Julius Armon looks to be the game-changer for the Red Lions this coming season. He has been the most consistent performer thus far for the Bedans, and he is just a match-up nightmare for opposing guards.
- It seems UP still suffers from the same bad habits. They take too many threes, and don’t make enough of them to justify their trigger-happy nature. At least they did play good defense, getting 6 steals, blocking 5 shots, and forcing 11 Ateneo turnovers.
- The Blue Eagle backcourt continues to struggle. Juami Tiongson made 2 threes on his way to a respectable 8-point output while grabbing 5 caroms and dishing out 8 dimes. His backup, Nico Elorde, however, still seems to be adjusting. Elorde committed 4 turnovers against 0 assists. Kiefer Ravena and Ryan Buenafe also had less-than-stellar contributions. The duo combined for just 5 points in 43 minutes of action.
