Denzel Bowles's mom holds up a blown-up version of his head as the B-Meg Llamados rustle up their second win in the Finals |
B-MEG LLAMADOS over TALK N TEXT TROPANG TEXTERS, 91-87
B-Meg hardly showed discouragement from its sorry Game Two defeat, coming out Friday night with renewed energy and outlasting Talk n Text in a nip-and-tuck battle for the 2-1 advantage in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
Denzel Bowles best typified the character displayed by the Llamados, bucking early foul trouble situation to put B-Meg back in the lead in the series. Bowles, a cinch to win the Best Import award Sunday, powered his way to 28 points, including 10 he made after having picked a fifth foul with 5:58 left to play.
He personally kept the Tropang Texters at bay with four important foul shots at the finish.
James Yap, Josh Urbiztondo and PJ Simon were also right there in the battle for B-Meg, combining for an impressive 10-of-18 three-point shooting.
Talk n Text coach Chot Reyes, meanwhile, took Jimmy Alapag and Ranidel de Ocampo to task for their Game Three loss.
“We’re not gonna beat B-Meg unless Ranidel and Jimmy come back from their early vacation,” said Reyes.
Donnell Harvey, Reyes, Castro and Ali Peek carried the cudgels for the Texters as they fought the Llamados through 10 deadlocks and 17 lead changes before losing it in the end.
The Texters were fighting to salvage the game when Bowles canned in four important charities in the last 23 seconds. He had given B-Meg a four-point lead at 90-86 when he eventually fouled out, baited by Alapag while taking a three-point attempt with 4.9 ticks left.
Talk n Text’s chances didn’t improve as Alapag muffed his first charity.
He knocked in the second one and deliberately missed the third, hoping Talk n Text would get the offensive rebound for a chance to tie from beyond the arc.
Rafi Reavies, however, cleared the board to settle the outcome.
De Ocampo took only two field goal attempts – both from beyond the arc -- in 23 minutes of action while Alapag bled for his points on 2-of-13 shooting.
