AIRASIA PHILIPPINE PATRIOTS over SAIGON HEAT, 76-70
Anthony Johnson scored 19 points, including a dunk in the final minute, as the AirAsia Philippine Patriots held on for a 76-70 win over the Saigon Heat tonight at the Ynares Sports Arena. Nakiea Miller added 17 points and 9 rebounds in his first game back with the Patriots.
On the other end of the court, the Heat were having trouble with their turnovers all game long. The Heat recorded 20 turnovers in this game, 16 of which came from their trio of Jahmar Thorpe, Jonathan Jones and John Smith.
It looked like it might go down to the wire when Thorpe closed the third quarter with a basket which trimmed the Patriots’ lead to 59-56. Unfortunately the Heat, who are still fighting for a playoffs spot, picked the wrong time to go cold from the field and struggled with their shots in the final quarter, missing 13 out of their 18 attempts.
Jonathan Jones, who had 21 points throughout the first three quarters, was held scoreless in the final 10 minutes. Their second leading scorer, Jahmar Thorpe, was also held scoreless in the first seven minutes

WESPORTS MALAYSIA DRAGONS over BANGKOK COBRAS, 107-84
The Westports Malaysia Dragons are regaining the impressive form they displayed at the start of the season as they dominated the Bangkok Cobras.
Tiras Wade finished the game with 27 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists for the Dragons tonight, followed closely by teammate Brian Williams who recorded 20 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists. Patrick Cabahug contributed a further 17 points and Shee Fai Loh rounded up the Dragons’ top four scorers with 12 points that included an 80% completion rate from the field and 100% from the three point line. The Dragons also finished the game with a total of 31 assists.
The Cobras had a slow start to the game; none of their players were able to break into the double digits until the final period. Gentry Lewis finished the game with 21 points, however, followed by Travis George who recorded 18. Marvin Cruz was the only other Cobras player that scored in the double digits with 15 points.

SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over JOBSTREET.COM SINGAPORE SLINGERS, 68-64
San Miguel Beermen’s center Nick Fazekas did everything from scoring, rebounding and blocking shots to help the Beermen beat the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers at Ynares Sports Arena.
Down 44-54 going into the final quarter, Fazekas stepped up by scoring 12 points, grabbing 8 rebounds and blocking 3 shots in the final 10 minutes of the game. He finished with 23 points and 19 rebounds.
Chris Banchero finished with 13 points and Duke Crews added 11 points in Beermen’s 15th win of the season. With this win, the Beermen are now on a six-game winning streak and still on top of the standings table with 15 wins and 4 losses. Beermen’s coach Bobby Parks hopes his team will play better in their next game which will be against the Bangkok Cobras.
The Slingers had to play without their best perimeter defender, Vaughn Canta, for most of the third quarter after he collided with Roger Yap that resulted in a cut on Canta’s lips. Canta was bleeding and had to be subbed out with 7:51 left in the third quarter. After Canta went to the bench, Kyle Jeffers also had to subbed out after receiving his fourth foul with 6:06 left in the third quarter. Even though the Slingers had to continue without their two starters, they still managed to close the third quarter with a 54-44 lead after Louis Graham hit a difficult fade away shot to close the quarter.
Graham led the Slingers with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Dulay added 17 points and 7 assists while Jeffers finished with 14 points for the Slingers who are on fifth position with 7 wins and 9 losses.

INDONESIA WARRIORS over CHANG THAILAND SLAMMERS, 73-63
The Chang Thailand Slammers, although already out of the playoffs race, proved this afternoon that they would not go out without a fight. Playing on the road against the hot-streaking Indonesia Warriors, Slammers’ coach Felton Sealey was still very passionate in keeping his players motivated. As a result, the Warriors had to put in extra efforts on defense to get their win over the Slammers in their last home game today.
“It was an ugly win but we’ll take it.” said Warriors guard Mario Wuysang who finished the game with 11 points.
Evan Brock led the Warriors with 24 points, including a couple of dunks that got the Warriors fans excited. Brock had the whole gym on their feet when he tried to dunk on Calvin Williams in the fourth quarter, but, unfortunately, the ball went in and out. Stanley Pringle added 12 points for the Warriors who are improved to 10 wins and 9 losses.
There was a scary scene for the Warriors late in the third quarter when their big man, Steven Thomas, got elbowed on the head by Darongpan Apiromvilaichai, which resulted in a big cut. Thomas had to be subbed out, but he did manage to return to the game. Thomas, however, did have to leave the arena immediately after the game to the hospital for some stitches. Thomas finished with a season-low 3 points.
Christoper Garnett led the Slammers with 23 points and Calvin Williams added 16 points. They will face the Westports Malaysia Dragons on May 5th at MABA Stadium.
The Warriors will try to maintain their undefeated record since adding Evan Brock and Stanley Pringle to their line-up when they travel to Bangkok to face Marvin Cruz and the rest of the Bangkok Cobras on May 6th.

SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over BANGKOK COBRAS, 91-77
The Bangkok Cobras fought hard against the San Miguel Beermen, knowing that a win here would be essential to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Beermen, however, were even more determined to defend their position at the top of the standings and got their 16th win of the season over the Cobras today.
Nick Fazekas was the game’s top scorer with 25 points, followed by teammate Chris Banchero, who put in 22. Leo Avenido rounded off the Beermen’s top 3 scorers with his contribution of 13 points.
Gentry Lewis topped the Cobras scorers with 20 points followed by Marvin Cruz’s 16 and Jai Reyes’s 14. Travis George did not have a good game as he finished with just 8.
The Beermen dominated in the paint, managing 42 points compared to the Cobras’ 22. In the end, the Beermen maintained their record at the top of the standings.
The Cobras will continue the regular season with a trip to Tan Binh Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City to face Saigon heat on May 2. The Beermen will next play in the final week of the regular season when they also travel to Tan Binh Stadium on May 9.

WESTPORTS MALAYSIA DRAGONS over AIRASIA PHILIPPINE PATRIOTS, 97-93
The Westports Malaysia Dragons snatched the last game in the season series between these two teams in a big way after their overtime win at the Ynares Sports Arena tonight over the AirAsia Philippine Patriots.
The Dragons’ big men put in huge points as Tiras Wade finished with 34 points and Brian Williams grabbed a 30 points and 18 rebounds double-double. Patrick Cabahug rounded up the Dragons’ top three with 17 points.
Anthony Johnson led the Patriots and finished with a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds. Al Vergara also had a good game and contributed 19 points.
The Patriots fell behind early and staged their comeback in the second half to go into the final quarter 66-60, paving the way for an intense final ten minutes of regular time. In the crucial final seconds of the fourth, Cabahug had a chance to give the Dragons the win, but missed a three point shot with 23 seconds left on the clock. Kiko Adriano then missed a game winning shot in the final seconds, throwing the game into overtime at 83-all at the end of regular time.
Both teams put aside fatigue and continued to fight in overtime, Wade calmly completing a three point play to put the Dragons up 91 to 88 with 2:15 to go. Aldrech Ramos answered for the Patriots with a three-pointer that drew the game at 91-all. The Dragons kept their cool, however, and Wade immediately answered with his own three to put them back on top, 94-91.
Unfortunately Adriano, Johnson and Vergara missed attempts in the final minute and the Dragons ultimately earned themselves a hard fought win.

JOBSTREET.COM SINGAPORE SLINGERS over SAIGON HEAT, 73-67
JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers ended the Saigon Heat’s playoffs dream after beating them at the Singapore Indoor Stadium this afternoon.
Louis Graham led the Slingers with 29 points and 15 rebounds. Kyle Jeffers also recorded a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Slingers. who are still chasing the Dragons for the fourth spot on the standings table.
The Heat’s defense held the Slingers’ shooting percentage at 34% in the first half as they led 34-31 at halftime.
The Slingers ended the Heat’s hope of getting another win at Singapore Indoor Stadium after a basket from Don Dulay gave the Slingers a 69-58 lead with 1:20 left. Dulay finished with 9 points. The Slingers are now still at fifth on the standings with 8 wins and 10 losses. They will travel to Manila on May 5 to play against the AirAsia Philippine Patriots.
Thorpe had 16 points for the Heat, who are now at seventh position with a record of 6 wins and 12 losses. With this loss, the Heat's Cinderella story comes to an end. After a great story coming back from a 0-7 start, the Heat are officially eliminated from the playoffs race.
