AHS BLUE EAGLETS over UPIS JUNIOR MAROONS, 92-75
The Ateneo de Manila HS Blue Eaglets rediscovered their winning form in trouncing the UPIS Junior Maroons, 92-75, at the state-of-the-art Mall of Asia Arena this past weekend.
The Eaglets of Coach Joe Silva utilized a suffocating full-court press to force their Katipunan neighbors to commit 38 turnovers, which were promptly converted by the Ateneans into 42 TO points.
Ateneo also outrebounded UPIS, 51-34, with super soph Matthew Nieto’s 10 boards leading the charge. He also scored 13 markers and dished out 9 assists for an inspiring near-triple-double performance.
Senior shooter Anton Asistio and junior forward Thirdy Ravena topscored for the Eaglets with 22 and 16 points respectively. Asistio used his feathery touch from the perimeter to stroke the nylon, while Ravena employed his athleticism in making baskets off broken plays and being the primary recipient in transition.
All 16 Eaglets saw action in this game, with all but Pao Quioge, Mio Puno, and Ivan Jose scoring at least 2 points.
This win lessens the bitterness of their opening day loss to the vaunted FEU-FERN Baby Tamaraws, and gives them much-needed momentum against the defending champion NU Bullpups on Wednesday, July 25, 2012.
Ateneo is now at 1-1, tied with the DLSZ Junior Archers, UST Tiger Cubs, and Adamson Baby Falcons. Both the Baby Tams and Bullpups lead the pack with similar 2-0 records.
