AdU SOARING FALCONS over UE RED WARRIORS, 89-69
Make no mistake, Adamson will be Jericho Cruz’s team in Season 76.
Yes, Rodney Brondial will collar a lion’s share of the rebounds, Eric Camson and Roider Cabrera will compete with each other for the team’s three-point throne, and Ryan Monteclaro should continue to be “not bad” as the Falcons’ chief floor general, but Cruz will be the King Falcon. In fact, by all indications, it looks like he already is.
Despite the fact that Camson leads this team in scoring through their first 12 games, Cruz has probably made the most impact in the wake of Alex Nuyles’s injury. Cruz norms 12.4 points per game, averages nearly 4 rebounds, more than 2 assists, and shoots the rock at a 43.4% clip, second among Coach Leo Austria’s regulars behind Rodney Brondial.
In this game, Cruz got hot practically from the word go, drilling in three straight treys in the first quarter that helped push Adamson comfortably ahead, 26-10, entering the second stanza. Cruz would continue making the UE defense work throughout the game. He eventually finished with 21 points, but another impressive thing was he added 8 assists. It’s clear that Cruz has the makings of a superstar for Adamson, and, as long as he stays true to form, he’ll definitely be one of the more memorable players to ever don the Adamson navy blue.
On the other end of the floor, Roi Sumang will surely be remembered as one the most explosive players to ever wear UE’s crimson. Despite this blowout loss, Sumang still registered eye-popping stats. The former Letran Squire ended up with 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, underscoring the many ways he can hurt the Reds’ foes. When Season 76 opens up in 2013, Sumang will definitely be at the forefront of the race for MVP, and perhaps he’ll help UE regain its contender status again.
