UAAP SEASON 75 WEEK 11 REVIEW & SEASON AWARDS: (Sept. 20-26, 2012)

Can the Blue Eagles reach the 5-peak
amidst the distractions confounding Ateneo?

WHO’S IN & WHO’S OUT:

1-    Ateneo Blue Eagles (2x to beat edge): Can the Eagles take care of business against La Salle and move a step closer to their five-peat?

2-    UST Growling Tigers (2x to beat edge): Can Karim Abdul prove he’s better than the MVP-to-be?

3-    NU Bulldogs (beat out DLSU and FEU with superior quotient): Can Ray Parks and the Bulldogs continue on their late season surge?

4-    DLSU Green Archers (beat FEU in a playoff): Is Coach Gee Abanilla right when he said that his Archers were peaking at the right time?

5-    FEU Tamaraws (eliminated): Two disappointing losses have ended FEU’s season. Does this also mean the end of the tenures of Bert Flores and RR Garcia?

6-    Adamson Soaring Falcons (eliminated): The Falcons ended with a whimper, but an intact core next year will be a big boost.

7-    UE Red Warriors (eliminated): Most of their young guns should return next year, and they should blossom under Coach Boysie Zamar.

8-    UP Fighting Maroons (eliminated): So many people are leaving, which might actually be a good thing.

MY PICKS FOR THE YEAR’S BEST

My Most Valuable Player: Karim Abdul (UST) – 16.9ppg, 12.2rpg, 2.0bpg, 1.9apg, 1.5spg (22.0 EFF/game)
*Abdul is my MVP because he missed less shots than Parks, he turned the ball over fewer times than Parks, and because UST won more games. Simple lang ang buhay.

Karim Abdul is my MVP.

*He’s just in his first year, but already he led DLSU in terms of Simple Efficiency (though his 11.9 average is not even top ten in the league). Needless to say, he never really had much competition for this year’s NOTY plum.

My Defensive Player of the Year: Karim Abdul (UST) – 6.7drpg, 2.0bpg, 1.9spg
*A big guy who grabs boards, blocks shots, and steals balls – yes you just read that. Any questions?

*He averaged 21.2mpg with ZERO starts this year. He was also La Salle’s savior in quite a few games. Boys and girls, Vosotros is the most efficient back-up in the league.
