All throughout the season,
the top three SFs have been just playing their own musical chairs, but it’s #s
4 and 5 that might be surprising. A young gun might be a sleeper MIP candidate,
and an oldie NOT named Tim Duncan is turning back time down in the heart of
Texas.
Note: All of the following stats are based on the
last five games of each player’s team as computed by HoopsStats.com. They were
taken in the evening of April 14, 2013 (Manila time).
5. Kawhi Leonard (SAS) - 17.5ppg, 9.5rpg, 3.0apg,
1.5spg, 1.0bpg, .519 FG%,
22.8 EFF
The Spurs have been a little
up and down this month, but Leonard’s play has been nothing but up. TD has been
awesome for San Antonio, but Leonard might just make a play for the Most
Improved Player award.

4. Shawn Marion (DAL) - 18.4ppg, 8.4rpg, 1.2spg, .569
FG%, 22.8 EFF
There’s a big reason the
Mavs have won three of their last four games, and that reason is Shawn Marion.
The Matrix seems to have followed the cue of Tim Duncan by turning back time
and doing almost everything for Dallas. Too bad it all came too late.
3. Kevin Durant (OKC) - 25.8ppg, 7.8rpg, 6.2apg,
1.4spg, 1.6bpg, .573 FG%,
.455 3pt%, .905 FT%, 32.2 EFF
It’s rather unfortunate
that, at the rate things are going, Durant is going to lose the scoring title
to Melo, but I think KD can take solace in the fact his own game has grown
immensely this season. I mean, look at his stats – he stuffs everything! Oh and
OKC has gone 5-1 this April. Talk about gathering steam for the Playoffs.
2. LeBron James (MIA) - 25.0ppg, 5.7rpg, 7.0apg,
1.0spg, .721 FG%, 1.00 FT%, 33.3 EFF
LBJ has actually missed a
few games this month, but it didn’t matter much as the Heat won all of those
LeBron-less games anyway. As impressive as these numbers are, however, it’s not
a long shot to think LeBron can monster-size them when the postseason begins.
1. Carmelo Anthony (NYK) - 36.0ppg, 13.4rpg, .515
FG%, .423 3pt%, 36.2 EFF
Melo has been nothing short
of amazing for the Knicks. This is the Melo New York wanted, and finally they’re
getting it. Just in time, too, as this mode of Melo might just be what the East
needs to prevent another Miami romp. Go Melo!
