Jay Washington and Alex Cabagnot, former players of the San Miguel (then known as Petron Blaze), were on the receiving end of a wallopping as the Beermen coasted to their third win in a row, 109-92. Import Kevin Jones has seemed to finally hit his stride, scoring 30 points on 11/17 FG shooting and grabbing 19 rebounds to lead SMB, which sits at solo second in the standings. He outdueled GlobalPort’s Evan Brock, struggled with 6/15 FG shooting to end up with 20 points.
Playmaking was a huge issue for the Batang Pier last night. They were -14 in assists, allowing the Beermen to hand out 29 dimes. Cabagnot struggled with 3 assists in 34 minutes while also turning the ball over 3 times. Speaking of TOs, GlobalPort coughed the ball up 7 more times than SMB, with Brock and Terrence Romeo each netting at least 3 errors.
Drunk on success: The Beermen enjoyed great production from across the board as the locals stepped up. Reigning MVP Arwind Santos dropped 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Chris Ross tossed in 12 markers and 11 assists. Marcio Lassiter, June Mar Fajardo, and Sol Mercado also scored 16, 11, and 10 points respectively. If they keep this up, then the Beermen should remain among the top three clubs in the conference.

SAN MIGUEL BEER over GLOBALPORT, 109-92
The San Miguel Beermen rolled to their third straight victory in the PLDT Home TVolution Commissioner’s Cup after dispatching GlobalPort, 109-92, on Monday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
The Beermen improved their win-loss slate to 5-1 while sending the Batang Pier to their sixth straight defeat.
Despite the streak, San Miguel Beer’s coaching staff said the team was far from reaching its peak.
“There’s no way we’re near 100 percent,” said SMB consultant Todd Purves. “I still have guys who are still hurt. I’m proud of the guys who’re fighting through it, June Mar (Fajardo) and Sol (Mercado) and Chico (Lanete).”
GlobalPort was still in the game midway through the third period before San Miguel Beer unleashed a 10-0 run to take a 74-62 margin just before the quarter ended.
The Beermen pushed the bubble to 16 points, 80-64, after opening the final quarter with six straight points.
GlobalPort tried to rally back, coming within seven points, 86-79, on a three-point basket by rookie RR Garcia.
The lead hovered at seven before Arwind Santos and Chris Ross combined for five quick points for a 96-84 bubble the proved beyond reach with less than four minutes remaining.
Import Kevin Jones dominated with 30 points and 19 rebounds, winning his matchup with counterpart Evan Brock, who had 20 and 16.
Reigning Most Valuable Player Arwind Santos led five Beermen locals in double-figures with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
It was the first meeting between the two teams since exchanging star guards Alex Cabagnot and Sol Mercado prior to the tournament. Mercado finished with 10 points in just 19 minutes, while Cabagnot struggled for seven points in 34 minutes.
Former Beerman Jay Washington, who won two Best Player of the Conference awards with the franchise, led GlobalPort with 22 points.
