In the lone Juniors match of the day, La Salle Green Hills leaned on a strong finishing kick to turn back the gritty UST Tiger Cubs, 73-61. Ricci Rivero, younger brother of DLSU rookie Rashleigh Prince Rivero, led the Junior Blazers with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals, while Jboy Gob rattled in 13 markers and 10 boards. On the other end, the Cubs were paced by Eric Marcelo and Jouel Luna, who scored 18 and 12 points respectively. The Junior Blazers focused their offense mostly in the paint as they had just 6 shot attempts from beyond the arc. LSGH handed UST its second loss of the tournament.

The first Seniors match of the day saw Lyceum clip St. Clare, 85-82. This one was close all throughout as the Pirates had a hard time creating separation between themselves and the hard-fighting Saints. LPU survived, however, mainly because of superior shooting and playmaking, which made up for their -12 deficiency in rebounding. Lyceum had 11 triples in this match, with Wilson Baltazar hitting 5 on his way to 17 points. Rhoel Maconocido, Dexter Zamora, and Guy Mbida combined to hit the remaining 6 as the Pirates moved up to 2-0. Jason Ibay led the Saints with 18 points, while Raymond Jamito registered a double-double with 11 markers and 13 boards.

The University of Perpetual Help System-Dalta also did well, prevailing over the University of San Carlos, 71-61. The Altas led right off the bat in this one and never looked back. They outscored the Warriors, 20-9, in the first canto and never let up, cruising to their second win in as many games. USC, meanwhile, fell to 1-2. Juneric Baloria led Perpetual help with 22 points, while Earl Thompson and Justine Allano each tallied 14 markers. Harold Arboleda ruled the glass for the Altas with 16 rebounds. On the other end, Olago Shooster, Miguel Plata, and Ian Ortega each scored at least 13 points to pace the Warriors.

In the next match, JRU dominated the UV Lancers, 73-63, behind the 22 points of Cris Dela Paz. The Heavy Bombers got in transition more often here, outscoring the Lancers, 14-2, in fastbreak points. They were also more efficient from the floor, hitting 41% of their FGs compared to just 35% for UV. Jaycee Asuncion and Phillip Mabulac each dropped 12 markers to backstop Dela Paz, while UV was led by the combined 32 points of Chris Perolino, John Abad, and Raffy Octobre. JRU moves up to 2-0 while UV sinks to 0-3.

In the day’s last Seniors encounter, the FEU Tamaraws defeated the Letran Knights, 85-75. The Tamaraws didn’t have the easiest of times here as the Knights kept on storming back. FEU, however, proved to be steadier down the stretch to preserve the 10-point win, which is their third in as many outings. Letran, for its part, fell to 0-2. Without Terrence Romeo and RR Garcia, it’s now clear that FEU belongs to fourth-year guard Mike Tolomia, who scored 17 points here while also handing out 9 assists. He was ably supported by Carl Cruz, Raymar Jose, and Russel Escoto, who tallied 16, 12, and 10 points respectively. Cruz also collared 9 boards as the Tams outworked the Knights on the glass, 46-38. On the other end, Mark Cruz connected thrice from long range on his way to 20 points. He was the lone bright spot as Letran shot just 33% from the field.
