#PBA2015 Philippine Cup Roundup: October 21, 2014


Highly-touted rookie Stanley Pringle enjoyed a great debut for the GlobalPort last night, although his production wasn’t enough to tow the Batang Pier to the win. New coach Leo Austria, meanwhile, also had a grand pro coaching debut, leading the Beermen past the Elasto-Painters.

Asi Taulava and Arwind Santos came up big for their respective
teams in their first games of the season.

NLEX started strong, floundered in the middle, and then ended with a great finishing kick to complete a come-from-behind win over GlobalPort. Asi Taulava scored 12 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter while also grabbing a total of 8 rebounds and handing out 5 assists. The big Fil-Tongan shot just 4/11 from the field, but he did connect on 13 of his 17 free throws. Mac Cardona also did well, playing 40 minutes and putting up 20 markers on top of 8 boards and 3 dimes. The Road Warriors survived the combined 56 points of Terrence Romeo and Alex Cabagnot. 2014 top overall pick Stanley Pringle, meanwhile, impressed with a solid line of 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Kelly Nabong tried to anchor the slot with 12 caroms in just 14 minutes. He was saddled with foul trouble.

SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over RAIN OR SHINE ELASTO-PAINTERS, 87-79
Star ROS guard Paul Lee had to leave the game early with a hyperextended knee, and San Miguel exploited this. The Beermen took the reigns and were firmly in control throughout the game. Former MVP Arwind Santos registered a nifty double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds for SMB, which also drew great production from the pair of Marcio Lassiter and Chris Lutz. The former Gilas players scored 13 and 11 markers respectively. Fajardo, the reigning MVP, also impressed with 16 points, 9 boards, and 3 assists while shooting 6/7 from the floor. On the other end, coach Yeng Guiao’s wards shot just 37% from the field. Raymond Almazan put up his own double-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 1 assist, while Jeff Chan and Jervy Cruz each contributed 11 markers in the loss.
