#PBA2015 Philippine Cup Roundup: November 2, 2014


Two deep teams ran away with wins in the 2014-2015 PBA Philippine Cup this past weekend. In the first game, the San Miguel Beermen throttled past the Barako Bull Energy thanks to the hot shooting of Arwind Santos. Not to be outdone, the Talk N Text Tropang Texters hammered out a dominant win over Rain or Shine as rookie Kevin Alas stepped up anew.

SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over BARAKO BULL ENERGY, 103-89
The San Miguel Beermen, behind near-perfect shooting from former PBA MVP Arwind Santos, remained unbeaten in the PBA Philippine Cup after securing a 103-89 win over Barako Bull. Santos scored 27 points on 9/10 shooting from the field and 5/6 from beyond the arc. Former Gilas wingman Marcio Lassiter added 20 points, while reigning MVP June Mar Fajardo added 18 points and 11 rebounds in a solid showing. With the win, San Miguel improved to a perfect 3-0 while Barako Bull lost for the third consecutive game. The Energy Cola actually shot well from the field (50%), but they were outrebounded, 29-36, and they shot just 60% from the line. The backcourt duo of Denok Miranda and Carlo Lastimosa paced the losing side with 17 and 12 points respectively off the bench.

The Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters blew a double-digit lead in their previous game, but they made sure not to make the same mistake here, routing Rain or Shine with a strong second half to win, 99-76. Talk ‘N Text allowed a huge fourth quarter comeback against Alaska last Tuesday, but made it clear that no such rally was coming in this one, pushing an 11-point halftime lead to as high as 25 points in the third quarter before holding steady in the fourth. Ranidel De Ocampo led the way 20 points, while rookie Kevin Alas had 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists for the Tropang Texters, who improved to 2-2. The pair also combined to score 14 of the team’s points in a 20-7 third quarter run that gave them their highest lead of the ballgame. Jay Washington hit three triples on his way to 18 points for TNT, while rookie Matt Rosser added 11 markers. Undersized PF Harvey Carey backstopped their efforts with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double. On the other end, Jeff Chan paced ROS with 16 marker,s but he shot just 4/11 from the floor.
