#PBA2015 Philippine Cup Roundup: November 18, 2014

The big story last night in the 2014-2015 PBA Philippine Cup was Terrence Romeo’s explosion leading to a monumental upset by the GlobalPort Batang Pier of the Talk N Text Tropang Texters.. Meanwhile, in the first game, the Purefoods Star Hotshots tagged their third win in six games after disposing of the Blackwater Elite.

PUREFOODS STAR HOTSHOTS over BLACKWATER ELITE, 90-82
The Purefoods Star Hotshots evened out their win-loss record with a 90-82 victory over gutsy expansion club Blackwater. Peter June Simon scored 18 points, Joe Devance added 16, and reserve Allein Maliksi chipped in with 11 points off the bench as the Grand Slam champions improved to 3-3 for the season. Marc Pingris finished with just seven and James Yap had six, but the pair combined to score eight of the team’s last 12 points in the game. Blackwater, now at 0-7, was led by Bryan Faundo and Sunday Salvacion, each of whom scored 14 points. The Hotshots were grossly outrebounded here, 39-54, but they compensated by forcing 23 Blackwater turnovers and going to the line 26 times. Purefoods also shot much better from the field compared to the Elite — 49%-39%.

Alex Nuyles and the Elite continue to struggle in their maiden season.

GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER over TALK N TEXT TROPANG TEXTERS, 105-97
The GlobalPort Batang Pier picked up their first ever win over Talk ‘N Text in franchise history after a lights-out shooting performance in the fourth quarter that gave them a 105-97 victory. GlobalPort hit seven three-pointers in the fourth period, two each from Terrence Romeo and No. 1 pick Stanley Pringle and three from Ronjay Buenafe, as the Batang Pier tied the Tropang Texters at 4-3. Romeo exploded for 30 points on 5-for-9 shooting from three-point range and 9-for-10 from the free throw line. He scored 13 of his total in the fourth period, where the Batang Pier outscored their opponents, 35-21. Four other Batang Pier players finished in double figures — Buenafe, Pringle and Mark Isip each scored 13 while Alex Cabagnot had 10 points and a team-high eight assists in the win. It was the first win for the GlobalPort franchise over Talk ‘N Text since it entered the league in the 2012-2013 season. On the other end, Harvey Carey and Ranidel De Ocampo tossed in 24 and 23 points respectively to lead TNT, but they got little help from the rest of the team.

Line of the Game: Terrence Romeo - 30 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 triples.

Harvey Carey was one of the few bright spots for TNT last night.
