Game recap (adapted from Interkasyon):

GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER over BLACKWATER ELITE, 101-78
Box scores.
The GlobalPort Batang Pier systematically dismantled expansion team Blackwater, 101-78, as they made it back-to-back wins for the first time in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Coming off an 18-point victory over Barako Bull, GlobalPort made it two lopsided wins in a row to improve to 4-3 as they outclassed a Blackwater side that fell to the bottom of the standings with a 1-5 mark.

Terrence Romeo exploded for 25 points, while import Calvin Warned scored just 17 but grabbed 30 big rebounds in the blowout win.

Ronjay Buenafe added 15 points, including three three-pointers, off the bench. Stanley Pringle added 10 points as well.

Blackwater was led by Marcus Douthit’s 19 points and 17 boards and Brian Heruela’s 17 markers, but no other Elite player scored in double-figures in the game.

Line of the Game: Calvin Warner (GLO) - 17pts, 30rebs, 2asts, 3blks, 7/14 FGs.

BGY. GINEBRA GIN KINGS over PUREFOODS STAR HOTSHOTS, 96-87
Box scores.
The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings led by as many as 16 points in the fourth but needed to withstand a late Purefoods run as they survived their ‘Manila Clasico’ rivals, 96-87, on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Import Michael Dunigan had 22 points and 9 rebounds, big man Greg Slaughter had 19 and 8, and LA Tenorio added 16 markers as the Kings had little trouble finding players to step up in what was a huge game for Ginebra.

Japeth Aguilar had a tournament-best showing with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Emman Monfort had a huge game with 9 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

Despite getting big contributions, there were some scary moments for Ginebra after they allowed Purefoods to tie the game at 78-all after a 20-4 run in the fourth quarter.

They closed the game out strong, though, with Dunigan making some big plays down the stretch.

With the victory, Ginebra improved to .500 with a 3-3 mark while tabbing Purefoods with a third consecutive loss after starting the PBA Commissioner’s Cup with a 4-0 mark.

They also spoiled the PBA return of Purefoods import Denzel Bowles, who scored 31 points but only grabbed 6 rebounds and turned the ball over 7 times for the Hotshots.

The game, which drew a live crowd of nearly 18,000, had a playoff atmosphere from the beginning, with the crowd cheering every action.

Line of the Game: Denzel Bowles (PUR) - 31pts, 6rebs, 2asts, 2stls, 2blks, 12/24 FGs.
