#PBA2015 Commish Cup Finals Game 4 Roundup

To say that Game 4 of the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals was full of excitement is a gross understatement. It had everything — from big shots, bench players stepping up, a near-brawl, and three ejections. Ah, PBA basketball at its finest.

Ranidel de Ocampo put up monster numbers against the Painters in Game 4.

The Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters survived a highly-physical game, 99-92, marred by a bench-clearing incident in the fourth quarter as they tied the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals series at two games apiece on Wednesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Ranidel De Ocampo scored a career-high 33 points, Best Player of the Conference Jayson Castro posted 25 points and 6 assists, and import Ivan Johnson had 19 points and 10 rebounds in a wild Game Four.


The game featured a big confrontation in the fourth quarter that saw three players tossed from the game.

With tensions from a very emotional series boiling over, Talk ‘N Text’s Matt Ganuelas-Rosser and Rain or Shine’s Jireh Ibanes and JR Quinahan were all ejected in a tense encounter that saw players and coaches from both sides rush onto the floor to keep things from escalating into a brawl.

It began when Ganuelas-Rosser and Ibanes got overly physical with each other, with Ibanes grabbing onto Ganuelas-Rosser’s jersey and the Tropang Texter shoving the Elasto Painter hard as they spilled into the audience area behind the Rain or Shine basket.

Quinahan got involved, throwing the ball right at Ganuelas-Rosser’s face before getting into a confrontation with Johnson, who stood his ground as personnel from the two teams stormed the court.

Ganuelas-Rosser and Ibanes were sent off for fighting, while Quinahan was assessed a flagrant foul penalty two.

Rain or Shine didn’t get much from Wayne Chism, who was named the Best Import of the Conference, as he struggled with foul trouble for most of the game. He finished with just 13 points and 8 rebounds. Chris Tiu led Rain or Shine with a career-high 21 points.

Despite the events of the fourth quarter, there was plenty of good basketball in the endgame.

Castro knocked down three triples and scored 13 points in the fourth to lead Talk ‘N Text, while Tiu made big shot after big shot for Rain or Shine.

Talk ‘N Text had too big a buffer, though, and they escaped with the victory.

Despite Chris Tiu's career-high 21 points, ROS couldn't take Game 4.

Talk ‘N Text star guard Jayson Castro was awarded the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Best Player of the Conference plum prior to Game Four of the best-of-seven championship series on Wednesday.

Castro, who posted averages of 20.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists in the conference, beat out top contenders Paul Lee of Rain or Shine and June Mar Fajardo of San Miguel to claim the tournament’s top individual award for local players.

The Tropang Texter led the Statistical Points race, finishing with 433, ahead of Fajardo’s 414. He also garnered the most votes from the media, players and the PBA, to finish with a total of 1164 points, ahead of Lee’s 782.

The star point guard has put in some memorable performances in these playoffs, including a career-best 44-point game in Game Two of this series.


Chism is Best Import of the Conference (adapted from Interaksyon)
Rain or Shine import Wayne Chism came away with the Best Import award of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Chism earned a total of 1,160 points to beat out Talk ‘N Text’s Ivan Johnson (873), Purefoods’ Denzel Bowles (666) and Meralco’s Josh Davis (501) for the award.

The Best Player of the Conference and the Best Import awardees were determined based on statistics, media votes, and players’ votes.

Despite being a late addition to the team, Chism, who replaced Rain or Shine’s original choice Rick Jackson, posted impressive numbers and averaged 25.4 point and 14.7 boards in the eliminations to lead the Elasto Painters who came into the playoffs as the No.1 seed.

Chism also helped Rain or Shine breeze through the playoffs, where they swept Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the quarterfinals and the Meralco Bolts in the semifinals to reach the Commissioner’s Cup finals against Talk ‘N Text.

Wayne Chism and Jayson Castro were given the two biggest individual awards of the conference.
