#PBA2015 Govs Cup Roundup: June 16, 2015

San Miguel Beer cemented its place at the top of the 2015 PBA Govs’ Cup after easily dispatching of the Blackwater Elite even as the Star Hotshots pushed themselves up the table by beating the Tropang Texters.

The San Miguel Beermen aren’t showing any signs of slowing down after they notched an eighth consecutive victory on Tuesday, hurdling Blackwater, 115-83, in PBA Governors’ Cup action at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Arizona Reid had an impressive triple-double with 39 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists to lead the Beermen, while June Mar Fajardo added 20.

Marcio Lassiter finished with 17 points and Ronald Tubid had 13 in the win.

Red-hot San Miguel improved to a league-best 8-2, while Blackwater fell out of contention for a quarterfinal berth at 1-8 following a fifth straight defeat.


Blckwater import Marcus Cousin finished with 25 points and 16 rebounds, while Brian Heruela had 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists for the Elite.

San Miguel will have a chance to clinch the top seed when it takes on current No. 2 Alaska in an out-of-town clash in Panabo City, Davao on Saturday. Blackwater still has two more assignments in the elimination round.

AZ Reid registered another monster line as SMB demolished Blackwater.

Marcio Lassiter played well once again as the Beermen stretched their win streak to 8.

Blackwater import Marcus Cousin had a better outing this time around, but his team still fell to the Beermen.


PUREFOODS STAR HOTSHOTS over TALK N TEXT TROPANG TEXTERS, 105-93

The Star Hotshots picked up a crucial win in the PBA Governors’ Cup after defeating Talk ‘N Text, 105-93, in a come-from-behind victory on Tuesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

They started the game off trailing, 21-9, but managed to lead by as many as 20 later in the game before sealing the win.

Marqus Blakely did a little of everything, finishing with 26 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 blocks to lead the Hotshots.

But he got plenty of help from the bench. Joe Devance scored 19 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 clip from beyond the arc, while Justin Melton and PJ Simon added 16 and 15 points, respectively.

The back-up trio combined to shoot a stellar 20-for-27 (74%) from the field and 6-for-9 (67%) from three.

With the win, the struggling Hotshots (4-5) leapfrogged the Tropang Texters (4-6), moving into eighth in the standings.

Larry Fonacier exploded early for Talk ‘N Text, scoring 10 points in a 21-9 start for the Tropang Texters. He knocked down two three-pointers as he outpointed Star all by his lonesome early in the game. He ended up with 20 points by game’s end.

Ranidel de Ocampo also did well for TNT, dropping 21 points on the strength of 4 treys, while import Steffphon Pettigrew and Jayson Castro scored 18 and 17 markers respectively.
