#PBA2015 Govs Cup Semifinals Roundup: July 6, 2015

The San Miguel Beermen outlasted the Rain or Shine Elasto-Painters in Game 3 of their 2015 PBA Govs’ Cup semis series. SMB is now just a win away from booking a rematch with the team they beat in the 2014-2015 Philippine Cup — the Alaska Aces.
It was an opportune time for Alex Cabagnot to take the spotlight and end up shining.

Box scores.
The San Miguel Beermen drew huge performances from import Arizona Reid and point guard Alex Cabagnot as they clinched a crucial 114-108 victory in Game Three of the PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals on Monday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Reid finished with 37 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter, while Cabagnot had 26 points and a game-high 9 assists as the Beermen took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series.

Marcio Lassiter and June Mar Fajardo each added 17 points, with the MVP center also grabbing 8 rebounds in the win.

The teams split the first two games of the series and this one loomed as an important contest, with history showing that the winner of Game Three in a tied best-of-five series went on to win majority of the time.

It was evident from the beginning with players on both sides bringing their A-game from the beginning. Reid scored 18 points and Cabagnot added 16 for San Miguel over the first two periods, but they were matched by huge showings from Rain or Shine’s Wendell McKines and Paul Lee, who combined for 39 points between them.

San Miguel, though, held a 56-54 lead at the break.

Rain or Shine trailed by just seven, 89-82, at the end of the third and could have been closer if a McKines shot at the buzzer wasn’t just late by a hair.

But Reid proved steadier in the final period, scoring seven of his points in a 10-2 run that gave the Beermen a 110-101 lead after the Elasto Painters closed in to within a single point.

McKines finished with 39 points to lead ROS, while Lee added 22 markers off the bench in support.

Line of the Game: Wendell McKines (ROS) - 39pts, 12rebs, 3asts, 1stl, 1blk, 2 triples, 12/14 FGs, 13/14 FTs.

AZ Reid was pretty much on fir for SMB in Game 3.

Jireh Ibanes and the rest of the Painters are just one defeat away from their season's end.
