#FIBAAsiaChallenge: Groupings finalized!

The draw for the Preliminary Round competition of the FIBA Asia Challenge 2016 to be played in Tehran (Iran) from September 9-18 has been announced.

The twelve (12) participating teams have been into groups of four as follows:


Group A: China, Kazakhstan, Jordan
Zhai Xiaochuan, Pavel Ilin, and AJ Zaghab.


Group B: Chinese Taipei, India, Philippines
Liu Cheng, Amjyot Singh, and Mac Belo.


Group C: Qatar, Iran, Iraq
Trey Johnson, Hamed Haddadi, and Ihab Al-Zuhairi.


Group D: Thailand, Japan, Korea
Chitchai Ananti, Makoto Hiejima, and Lee Seung-Hyun.

All Three (3) teams from each group advance to the Second Round where they will be divided into two (2) groups of six (6). Each team will play against the three (3) new teams in its group.

The top four (4) teams from each group advance to the Quarter-Finals. 

The Final Phase will be played in a knockout format from the Quarter-Finals onwards (Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Final).

The top five teams in the FIBA Asia Challenge will earn for their respective sub-zones an extra berth in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup (formerly the FIBA Asia Championship). 

Iran are the two-time defending champions, having beaten Chinese Taipei in the final in Wuhan (China) two years ago.
