The NBA Position Battle – The Top 5 Point Guards after the 2016 All-Star Weekend

Images from the NBA.

In this Position Battle post, we will focus on the top five point guards in the NBA after the 2016 All-Star Weekend. Not surprisingly, most of the guys on this list play in the Western Conference, and the only East playmaker isn’t even on an American team. Go figure, right?

There shouldn’t be any shockers at #s 1, 2, and 3, but some top-of-mind players may not even make the “On the bubble” list. Among these? No Kyrie, no D-Rose, TP9, and Jeff Teague.

Note: All of the following stats are based on each player’s stats as computed by HoopsStats.com. They were taken on March 26, 2016 (Manila time).

#NBA2015 December Position Battle – The Top 5 Shooting Guards Right Now

In this Position Battle post, we will focus on the top five shooting guards at this point in the season. We will take into account just the players’ stats for the entire season up till December 9, 2014 (Manila time). This will, hopefully, give us a more current picture of each player’s production.

In this list, there’s no surprise at #1, but #2 should have some people shaking their heads. Oh, and the Mamba is officially back!

Take a look at the top five shooting guards in the NBA right now!

#NBA2015 December Position Battle – The Top 5 Point Guards Right Now

In this Position Battle post, we will focus on the top five point guards at this point in the season. We will take into account just the players’ stats for the entire season up till December 5, 2014 (Manila time). This will, hopefully, give us a more current picture of each player’s production.

In this list, we have two members of the Team USA iteration that dominated #Spain2014, a couple of veteran playmakers, and the kid who had maybe the best game-winner of last season.

Best PG in the Association? Who's your pick?

Note: All of the following stats are based on each player’s stats as computed by HoopsStats.com. They were taken on December 5, 2014 (Manila time).

5. Kyrie Irving (CLE) - 22.4ppg, 3.4rpg, 4.7apg, 1.6spg, 49.2 FG%, 2.2 triples per game, 42.5 3pt%, 22.1 EFF
Did you see how he ruined the Knicks? No, I mean, did you really see him drop 37 big ones on the team that ruined LeBron’s homecoming? In the process, did you notice how the Cavs moved up to 10-3 and fifth in the East? Man, if Uncle Drew can keep dropping the boom for the wine and gold, then don’t be surprised if the Cavs keep winning till they face Memphis on December 22 (Manila time). Heck, maybe they even beat the Grizz, too!

Week 1 UAAP Season 77 Position Battle

Let's welcome Season 77 with our first UAAP Position Battle post ever!

Week 1 of the UAAP has passed, and it was definitely a doozy. We were treated to a lot of statement games, most notably the huge wins by FEU and NU over DLSU and UST respectively.

Now it’s time to take stock and reward the best performers of Season 77’s opening weekend.

Let’s look at the best players per position and the best ones overall.

All stats are taken from PBA-Online.net.

Top Center: Chris Javier (UE) - 12pts, 9rebs, 1ast, 1blk, .667 FG%, 34.3 EFF
- Javier isn’t the hottest name on the UE roster (that’s reserved for either Roi Sumang or Charles Mammie), but he was the most productive this past weekend, putting up a near double-double against the lowly Maroons.

The Top 10 Players in the 2014 NBA Playoffs (May 5, 2014) Part 2

The 2014 NBA Playoffs have given us, arguably, the best first round so far, what with five series going the full seven games and the lower seeded or “weaker” teams surprising fans and quashing experts’ predictions left and right. Simply put, the past few weeks of postseason action have been nothing short of awesome.

In this second of two parts, I will present five of the current Top 10 players in the 2014 NBA Playoffs. This will be based on the players’ stats for their first round games. They are ranked according to Player Efficiency for that duration of time only.

In this list, we will find the five best players so far in the postseason. Here you’ll find two Trail Blazers, a soon-to-be disgruntled Houston Rockets big man, and the two best SFs in the Eastern Conference.

Ladies and gents, presenting your top performers in the 2014 NBA Playoffs thus far.

Note: All of the following stats are based on each player’s stats as computed by HoopsStats.com. They were taken on May 5, 2014 (Manila time).

In this list, we will find the sixth till tenth-best players so far in the postseason. It’s a pretty interesting bunch, highlighted by a sweet shooting PF, two explosive PGs, a center who has come into his own, and the league’s would-be MVP.

All these guys have given us reason to feel giddy in the Playoffs.

The NBA: April 2014 Position Battle – The Top 5 Centers Right Now

In this Position Battle post, we will focus on the top five centers at this point in the season. We will take into account just the players’ stats for the latest five games of their respective teams. This will, hopefully, give us a more current picture of each player’s production.

This is the last Position Battle post for the regular season, as all teams have played out their 82 games. The next series of Position Battles will focus exclusively on the players in the postseason.

In this list, a resident Sacramento bad boy remains at the top spot, while a troika of playoff-bound big men crowd him. Oh, and quite possibly the league’s worst free throw shooter is here, too. Go figure.

The league's best centers are comprised of a curious sort.

At the very top of this list is a guy who has really come into his own this season, even making a solid case for Most Improved Player. With him are two of the deadliest three-point shooters in the Association and two underrated veterans who have been able to lead their respective clubs back to the postseason.

Note: All of the following stats are based on each player’s stats as computed by HoopsStats.com. They were taken on April 15, 2014 (Manila time).

The Top 4s in the NBA are led by the Clippers' own Blake Griffin.

The NBA: April 2014 Position Battle – The Top 5 Small Forwards Right Now

In this Position Battle post, we will focus on the top five small forwards at this point in the season. We will take into account just the players’ stats for the latest five games of their respective teams. This will, hopefully, give us a more current picture of each player’s production.

KD is going to be the MVP, but LBJ is still the best player on the planet. That’s what the numbers show so far. Also, PG24 makes a comeback to the top five, while a fiery Frenchman and a former Aztec round out the league’s top tier swingmen right now.

The four guys up top are all aching to dethrone the King at the bottom.

Nobody unseats the Beard here, which means James Harden is really that good, or the rest of the NBA SGs are just not that good to begin with. And find out if Swaggy P breaks into the top five!

Note: All of the following stats are based on each player’s stats as computed by HoopsStats.com. They were taken on April 11, 2014 (Manila time).

James Harden is the best out of a shallow pool of NBA off-guards.

Neither Chris Paul nor Steph Curry is at the top of this list. Other marquee names, meanwhile, like Deron Williams, Ty Lawson, or Goran Dragic are also conspicuously absent. The young ‘uns rule, at least for now.

Note: All of the following stats are based on each player’s stats as computed by HoopsStats.com. They were taken on April 9, 2014 (Manila time).

CP3 is the only "old hand" on this list as the young playmakers
of the Association take over.

Don’t look now, but the Chicago Bulls are sneaking up on the Toronto Raptors and might actually steal third seed in the East. That’s awesome news for Bulls fans, and, more importantly, it might make Heat fans a little edgy. The main conduit for Chicago’s recent rise, of course, has been the awesome play of Joakim Noah, who is joined by a hodge-podge of young bigs and old bigs in this top five list.

And, for all the Lakers and Magic fans who despise Dwight Howard, you’ll be happy to know he’s nowhere on this list.

Note: All of the following stats are based on each player’s stats as computed by HoopsStats.com. They were taken on March 23, 2014 (Manila time).

Despite how good he’s been playing and how the Clippers have won 11 in a row, Blake Griffin, statistically, is not the best power forward out there right now. The title of top dawg goes, instead, to a younger fella whose team might be floundering, but whose numbers are soaring through the roof. #Unibrow.

And, no, LaMarcus Aldridge doesn’t make this list. Not by a long shot.

Note: All of the following stats are based on each player’s stats as computed by HoopsStats.com. They were taken on March 17, 2014 (Manila time).

After his 61-point effort against the Bobcats, LBJ’s shooting has tapered off considerably, which means KD is back on top of the heap as the best swingman on the planet. Unexpectedly, this also means LeBron slides as far back as third on this list, with a surprising fellow becoming, currently, the second-best SF out there. And, no, Paul George, Josh Smith, and Chandler Parsons don’t even come close.

Note: All of the following stats are based on each player’s stats as computed by HoopsStats.com. They were taken on March 16, 2014 (Manila time).

There’s no surprise at the top, but there are a couple of names here that might make your jaw drop. Yes, that includes Brooklyn’s own overpaid sniper finally breaking into the top five and one of the biggest reasons the Suns SHOULD BE in the Playoffs.

What’s very interesting in this list is that neither Chris Paul nor Steph Curry are included. Yes, maybe the two consensus best PGs on the planet aren’t among the current top five. Instead, we have a guy who’s bouncing back after being in sick bay, an All-Star snub, and a host of other great playmakers.

The NBA: February 2014 Position Battle – The Top 5 Centers Right Now

In this Position Battle post, we will focus on the top five centers at this point in the season. We will take into account just the players’ stats for the latest five games of their respective teams. This will, hopefully, give us a more current picture of each player’s production.

And just like that the consensus best center on the planet is, once again, actually the best center on the planet. He is putting up monster stats again, and leading his new team in an awesome midseason run. Also, we have a couple of underrated slotmen and one guy who just loves to make posters out of people.

Note: All of the following stats are based on each player’s stats as computed by HoopsStats.com. They were taken on February 20, 2014 (Manila time).

5. DeAndre Jordan (LAC) - 13.0ppg, 14.6rpg, 1.4spg, 2.8bpg, .750 FG%, 27.2 EFF
Look out below because DeAndre Jordan is finally shaping up to be the kind of center the Clippers need to make some serious noise come Playoff time. For the first time in his young career the poster-maker is averaging a solid double-double along with awesome D stats. He’s still not the kind of center who’ll drop 30 on, say, the Mavs (or even the Bucks), but he has become a reliable enough offensive weapon to keep opposing frontlines busy (as if they weren’t busy enough with Blake Griffin). If this April and May become memorable (in a good way) for Doc Rivers and his crew, then a ton of credit should go Jordan’s way.

DeAndre Jordan is a top five NBA center?! Why, YES!!!

You’ll be surprised at what you find here, what with All-Stars LaMarcus Aldridge and Paul Millsap absent, but don’t fret too much, since the guys filling up the list aren’t too shabby in their own right.

Note: All of the following stats are based on each player’s stats as computed by HoopsStats.com. They were taken on February 16, 2014 (Manila time).

5. Serge Ibaka (OKC) - 14.6ppg, 8.0rpg, 3.2bpg, .571 FG%, .875 FT%, 21.0 EFF
While Kevin Durant has been the biggest reason the Thunder have supplanted the Pacers as the best in the league, nobody can sleep on the contributions of Serge Ibaka. I mean, this naturalized Spaniard blocks around 3 shots per game while flirting with a double-double and making more than half his field goals. He makes nearly 90% of his free throws to boot! All in all, he might just be the most underrated big man out there.

Serge Ibaka continues to shine for the OKC Thunder.

The NBA: February 2014 Position Battle – The Top 5 Small Forwards Right Now

In this Position Battle post, we will focus on the top five small forwards at this point in the season. We will take into account just the players’ stats for the latest five games of their respective teams. This will, hopefully, give us a more current picture of each player’s production.

The small forward spot, arguably, has the most star power in the NBA, what with Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Carmelo Anthony among the most followed/loved players on the planet. And then you toss in athletes like Paul George, Josh Smith and Chandler Parsons along with old reliables like Paul Pierce, Andre Iguodala, and Shawn Marion and you have what is easily the most crowded (read: talented) position in all of basketball. But we only have room for five, so here they are…

Note: All of the following stats are based on each player’s stats as computed by HoopsStats.com. They were taken on February 16, 2014 (Manila time).

5. Chandler Parsons (HOU) - 14.4ppg, 5.0rpg, 4.4apg, 1.2spg, .536 FG%, 1.6 triples per game, .444 3pt%, 18.0 EFF
Parsons has been a big reason the Rockets have won their last seven games (Houston is the hottest team right now). He dropped 26 at Dallas last January 29, and has scored a combined 38 in their last two wins – against Minnie and the Wiz respectively. The most noticeable improvement in his game has been his outside shooting, as proven by going 3/3 from long distance against PHX last February 5. Parsons is no All-Star (yet), but he could be the huge third option Houston needs to become a serious title contender.

needs for a title run.

The NBA: February 2014 Position Battle – The Top 5 Shooting Guards Right Now

In this Position Battle post, we will focus on the top five shooting guards at this point in the season. We will take into account just the players’ stats for the latest five games of their respective teams. This will, hopefully, give us a more current picture of each player’s production.

The shooting guard position hasn’t really been the most exciting position this season so far. Sure, James Harden and Dwyane Wade have been great, but SGs haven’t really filled up the highlight reels as much as, say, the Steph Currys (or Curries?), Kevin Durants, and LaMarcus Aldridges of the Association. Still, there is a lot of gam-changing talent here, and that’s what we will celebrate in this post.

Note: All of the following stats are based on each player’s stats as computed by HoopsStats.com. They were taken on February 12, 2014 (Manila time).

5. James Harden (HOU) - 23.0ppg, 3.0rpg, 3.3apg, 1.8spg, 2.5 triples per game, .933 FT%, 18.5 EFF
Yes, the Beard is just at fifth spot, which is quite low for him, who is considered by many the best active SG out there. With Harden playing really well, Houston has won 8 of its last 10 games, and they remain among the top five clubs in the Western Conference. His recent best was dropping 28 points on the Cavs on top of 4 assists and three triples.

4. Monta Ellis (DAL) - 17.8ppg, 4.0rpg, 4.0apg, 2.0spg, .469 FG%, 1.0 triples per game, .417 3pt%, .857 FT%, 18.6 EFF
Quietly, the Dallas Mavericks have clustered five straight wins, which is the second-longest active streak behind the Rockets’ six-game run. Ellis, not surprisingly, has been a major contributor in that winning run, playing awesome two-way basketball. His recent best was scoring 20 points with 3 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block in a close win by Dallas over Sacramento.

Monta Ellis has emerged as a vital cog for
the Dallas Mavericks.
