SAIGON HEAT over SINGAPORE SLINGERS, 72-67
It did not take long for Jahmar Thorpe to show his coach what he could do. Thorpe, who just joined the Heat, led all scoring with 24 points in his debut as the Saigon Heat beat the Singapore Slingers.
The Slingers and the Heat were struggling to shoot the ball, with both teams combining for a dismal 35% field goal percentage. The Slingers did not help themselves by only making 14 free throws in 25 attempts.
Donald Little finished with 15 points and 8 rebounds for the Slingers. The Slingers were leading 35-52 going to the third quarter but Thorpe and Jonathan Jones combined for 16 points to help the Heat outscore the Slingers 26-16 in the third. The Slingers were down by as many as 7 points with four minutes left in the final quarter before Don Dulay scored 5 straight points to make it 65-67 with 2:38 left. Louis Graham, who finished with 19 points and 18 rebounds, tied the game at 67 with 1:37 left.
Heat’s John Smith, who has been struggling with his shots all season long, hit a key field goal to make it 69-67 with 20 seconds left on the clock. Teammate Noy Javier then converted one of his two free throws to make it 70-67. The Slingers did not get a chance to tie the ball game as Vaughn Canta turned the ball over with 5 seconds left.
This is Heat’s second straight win under new coach Jason Rabedeaux. Jones contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds, while John Smith also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.

PHILIPPINE PATRIORS over INDONESIA WARRIORS, 72-68
The youngest player on the court hit the biggest shot of the game. Patriots forward Aldrech Ramos hit a three-point shot with 43 seconds left to help the Philippine Patriots defeat Indonesia Warriors. This is the third time in a row the Warriors have lost with a difference of 4 points or less.
The Patriots’ Anthony Johnson led all scoring with 24 points while Ramos had 12 points and Nakiea Miller added a double-double with 11 points and 17 rebounds.
It was a tough night for last year’s best local player, Mario Wuysang, who finished 1-of-13 from the field. Jonathan Smith was fired up early, but couldn’t carry his performance to the second half. Smith scored 19 of his 22 points in the first half. Steven Thomas added a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds for the Warriors.
The Patriots got a huge lift from their bench, who scored 33 points compared to the Warriors bench, who scored only 17 points. Al Vergara led the scoring off the bench with 12 points. Adriano had a nice debut against his former team by scoring 8 points and making a couple of key defensive plays in the game.
The Warriors are now on a three-game losing streak as they travel to Bangkok on Wednesday to play against Chang Thailand Slammers.

SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over CHANG THAILAND SLAMMERS, 92-77
The San Miguel Beermen were just too effective this afternoon as they earned themselves their third straight win after defeating the Chang Thailand Slammers. Leo Avenido and Jarrid Famous had great games, Avenido finishing with 26 points and Famous with 18.
The Chang Thailand Slammers debuted another player in this game as Calvin Williams stepped into their starting five. Darongpan Apiromvilaichai is now the only player in their starting five who has been with the team since the start of the season. Despite this being only his second game in a Slammers jersey, Demetrius Proby played a good game, narrowly missing out on a double-double as he finished as the game’s leading scorer with 29 points and 9 rebounds. Calvin Williams also had a good debut with 18 points.
The Beermen were showed no mercy all throughout and earned themselves a 30-point lead at 82-52 four minutes into the fourth quarter. Refusing to give in so easily, the Slammers continued to push back, completing a 14-0 run to cut the Beermen’s lead to 82-66 with less than three minutes left in the game. Unfortunately, it was too little too late.

SAIGON HEAT over WESTPORTS MALAYSIA DRAGONS, 70-69
Tiras Wade had a chance to stun the Tan Binh Stadium, but his running shot at the buzzer fell short and the Saigon Heat completed their upset of the Westports Malaysia Dragons to record their third straight win.
Jonathan Jones had a monster game for the Heat with 19 points and 22 rebounds while Jahmar Thorpe finished with 18 points. Teammates John Smith and Noy Javier also contributed 14 points each.
The Dragons were down 50-53 going into the final quarter until Wade took matters into his own hands, scoring 14 points in the quarter. Thorpe, who was guarding Wade, did not put his hands up as Wade buried a three-point shot to make it 69-66 for the Dragons with 42 seconds left, prompting Coach Rabedeaux to call a timeout for the home team.
After the timeout, John Smith hit a shot to cut the Heat’s deficit to just one. The Dragons ran into trouble when Wade turned the ball over and Guga Batumalai fouled Thorpe. With only 5.6 seconds left on the clock, Thorpe calmly hit two clutch free throws to put the Heat up for good.
Wade, who finished with 28 points, did not get a lot of help from his teammates . Brian Williams sprained his ankle late in the first quarter after landing awkwardly when grabbing an offensive rebound, but was able to return to the game. Williams finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds. No other players from Dragons were able to reach double digits.

BANGKOK COBRAS over SINGAPORE SLINGERS, 79-74
The Bangkok Cobras and the Singapore Slingers came into the game following heartbreaking losses that made them more determined than ever to grab the win. Both teams played tough, but it was the Cobras who came out victorious, coming back from being outscored 11 to 26 in the second quarter to grab the win.
The Cobras’ Marvin Cruz finished as the game’s leading scorer with 26 points, followed by Gentry Lewis, who narrowly missed out on a double-double with 24 points and 9 rebounds. Jai Reyes also scored well with 18 points.
Louis Graham recorded a double-double for the Slingers with 18 points and 11 rebounds. The two Donalds also finished in double-digits, with Donald Little contributing 17 points and Don Dulay putting in 14.

The AirAsia ABL Fined Players for Misconduct in last Sunday’s Brawl
The AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League announced that fines have been imposed on the players who were involved in the brawl that occurred in the match last Sunday between the AirAsia Philippine Patriots and the San Miguel Beermen.
After careful reviews of the game footage as well as reports from the game’s officials, the league today has confirmed that fines for undisclosed amounts have been served to the AirAsia Philippine Patriots for clearing the bench during a game. Furthermore, Patriots Anthony Johnson and Frederick Rodriguez will also be served fines and one-game suspensions for fighting and violent behavior for their part in the altercation. Ardy Larong will be getting a one-game suspension for continuance of unsportsmanlike behavior after receiving an unsportsmanlike foul in an unrelated incident during the third quarter of this game.
As for San Miguel Beermen, Aries Dimaunahan will be served with a fine and a one-game suspension for committing the flagrant foul. Jun Cabatu will also be given a fine and a one-game suspension for unsportsmanlike behavior for his part in the brawl.
This action follows fines that were recently served to the Singapore Slingers’ Donald Little and Westports Malayia Dragons’ Nic Belasco, who were involved in an incident during the Dragons-Slingers game last February 19.
The AirAsia ABL is cracking down on improper conduct by the players and the teams in the league, which also includes off-court antics as evidenced by another fine that was imposed on AirAsia Philippine Patriots player Nakiea Miller, who made disparaging remarks on his Twitter account about another team in the league earlier last month.
